This Wherigo will take you to 6 vintage neon signs along and near West Colorado Avenue where it crosses into Manitou Springs.

The cartridge can be downloaded HERE.  A couple of things to note:

  • The cartridge should take less than 30 minutes to complete.
  • All of the stops, except the final, can be done without leaving your car (though please stop in a safe place to answer the questions).
  • Most of the zone descriptions and questions to answer have both a photo and some text. You may need to scroll to see the text.
  • When you enter the final zone, finding info including a spoiler photo will pop up. This only appears once so don't click Ok until you have found the cache.
  • Mel-Haven Lodge at nightBefore the new Highway 24 was built in 1968, Colorado Avenue was the main connection between Colorado City and Manitou Springs.  As travelers prepared to head into the mountains via Ute Pass, they could stay overnight or get a meal in one of the businesses in this area aimed at serving the automobile traveler.  Many of the original neon signs still exist today.  Some still work, some don't, but all of them are historic!

If you are new to Wherigo caches, there is an FAQ page here.  To play the Wherigo, you will need a Wherigo-enabled device.  There are apps for both iPhone and Android that work well, and some models of Garmin GPSr also support playing Wherigo cartridges.

Congratulations to EJKPBR and R&B CO - First to Find!

I can’t pass up a WIG. We did this one after hiking in Red Rocks this morning. I just did a similar one in Denver a few weeks ago. Thanks for placing it.

Fun, Fun, Fun! I picked a perfect sunny day to walk around to the stops on this Wherigo. I enjoyed imagining what this was like back in its heyday. Thanks for the work put into this.

I've never found a Wherigo on Leap Day so I just had to do it today. The roads were fairly quiet this morning as I made the stops. The spoiler helped make the final quick and easy. It was a fun look at things I've often driven past but never really took the time to appreciate. TFTC

Great geocache for a walk around the area. Reminds me of Radiator Springs. Thanks for the interesting cache.
