Lily Mountain is a 2-mile, one-way hike with spectacular views of Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park once you reach the summit (9,786'). Most of the 590' elevation gain is on the second half of the trail, which can be quite steep in places, terminating in a rock scramble to the top. While Lily Lake is in the Park, the mountain itself is national forest, so feel free to bring the dog.
Not far from the trailhead, you'll cross a large scar starting high up on the peak and running all the way down to the road. This is a landslide caused by three days of rain in 2013. The resulting flooding in the area took the better part of five years to repair, but this scar will take much longer as all the soil has been washed away.
The cache isn't at the summit, but after you've gone that far, you'll want to go the rest of the way for the amazing views.
