The cache is not at the posted coordinates! However, you WILL need to go to the posted coordinates to solve the puzzle. The museum is free to enter, although donations are welcome, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., and Sunday from Noon to 4:00 P.M. The actual cache is at N 40° 02.UVW W 107° 54.XYZ.
While visiting my daughter's family a while back, I toured the White River Museum in Meeker, Colorado. I was impressed with the town's rich and vibrant history, and how well the past had been preserved. As I was preparing a Pocket Query for this trip, I noticed that the closest puzzle cache was over 30 miles away! This town needs a good puzzle cache, and more people need to experience this wonderful museum and its displays. What better way than to use it as a base for a puzzle!
As puzzle caches go, this one is quite simple. All you have to do is answer the questions, which can be discovered while touring the museum. Once you have the answers, do some simple math to get the final coordinates, which are just a few blocks away from the posted coordinates. The actual cache is at N 40° 02.UVW W 107° 54.XYZ. The museum is free to enter, although donations are welcome, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., and Sunday from Noon to 4:00 P.M.
1. In the room containing organs, pianos, and other musical instruments, you can find ledgers from the Meeker Hotel in a glass display case. The ledger on the top shelf of this case is from the Marvine Lodge. The year displayed on this ledger is 192A.
2. In the carriage room you can see the Concord Stage Coach. The coach was held up by masked bandits in 18B7.
3. In the carriage room, you can see a photo of the first car purchased by Meeker resident H.S. "Simp" Harp. The vehicle was purchased in 190C.
4. Also in the carriage room you can find a collection of Colorado license plates. The skier looks like he's about to slalom through number D.
5. (This one's a bit tricky, so read it carefully!) In the corner just to the left of the entrance to the carriage room, you can see an unusual bit of taxidermy donated by Hugh Galiwell. Add the number of heads this strange calf had to the number of hours it lived to get E.
6. As you enter the museum, turn right, then turn left. You'll see a telephone exchange switchboard from the Meeker Hotel. On the side closest to the entrance, add the last two numbers on the rotary dial on the right side of the console to get F.
To get the final coordinates, you'll need to do a little math. The posted coordinates are for the White River Museum. Add ABC to the last three digits of the Norther (312) to get UVW, and add DEF to the last three digits of the Wester (812) to get XYZ.
