A nice hike along the Hogback - great views!
This is a beatiful hike along the Hogback with great views in both directions. The trail is well maintained, but passes close to some cliffs, so watch the young ones. Mountain bikes are permitted - watch out for them going to and from the cache, and while searching. Be aware that the trail is rather difficult to bike, so walk if in doubt of your technical skill.

Parking is available on the east side of the Hogback, off Rooney Road just before it crosses through the roadcut.

Update on 08/28/08: The section of road that goes over the hogback is now closed to private vehicles. It will be necessary to either walk this road or pay to take a shuttle bus from the Dinosaur Ridge visitor center.

Although I’ve been to dinosaur ridge a few times, I still have yet to pick up all of the caches I want. I was grateful to have the opportunity to return and continue my “nibble“ strategy to clear the area. Today my goal was to pick up the remaining caches (that I want) on the northern portion of the ridge. Hiking hogbacks is always fun because you have the opportunity to get simultaneous good views on two sides. Despite the low difficulty ratings, all of my finds on the ridge today were hard fought. I was grateful to make the find on this one.

However, I would like to point out that even though COpackrat acknowledged that the road is now closed, thus a longer hike...she kept the terrain rating has stayed the same. Cmon COpackrat, stop cheating your cachers and give us that .27 Terrain rating buff!
