update 6-12-7: Thanks to Kevin (kwbforest) this cache is back up. He was kind enough to replace missing clues and check on the cache for me. Kevin will be taking over this cache as we are off to Oregon at the end of the month. It's been great! Thanks! Kathryn
New update 10-1-6, I checked 1st clue and it was there, just on the ground but not too far from where it should have been. So I had brought a replacement with me and decided to leave it just in case. So there are now 2 clues within 2 feet of each other for #1 location. Also checked on clue # 2 and it is still in place. Didn't have time to check rest of stops this trip.
UPDATED 06-06-06. My husband and I went up to do some cache maintenence back on 4-22-6 and found that there are "Private Property, No Trespassing" signs posted all over this area and the access parking area. However the "El Paso County Parks" sign is still there also. I received new info today (06-06-06) from a fellow cacher (Explorer99). Special Thanks to Explorer99 for contacting the East Dist. Supervisor of the El Paso Co Parks and Leisure Services. This is the info received about the area.
"You can still access the Rattlesnake Butte area up the same road. The signs on either side of the road are on private property. At the end of the short dirt road is a small turn-around which is encompassed by three properties. Our access is off of this turnaround and is very narrow (near our sign) it widens some as you get closer to the hill. We will be marking the boundaries of this undeveloped section of the park later in the year to aid users in staying within our boundaries. Enjoy this unique property, but please respect the surrounding property owners' by entering/leaving via this access or between the two yellow stakes located just East of the Gollihar entrance to the main park". So there you go, YEAH, we can still enjoy this area!
Please park at the following location. N 39 Deg. 04.286, W 104 Deg. 30.527. This is a small parking area and trailhead (as detailed in the info from the East Dist. Supervisor of the El Paso Co Parks and Leisure Services). To access this El Paso County Parks area, please take Sweet Road to Bradshaw and then Person to Mesquite (a dead end road). You will see a somewhat rutted dirt road on your right. This is the short road that takes you to the small parking area. You will also see the El Paso County Parks sign post in this parking area. I have planned this multi-cache out to take you around the open space. It’s not a real large area but it is still worth checking out. We saw at least 15 deer (on each of our 2 times there now) and Rick even saw a red fox (I missed it!). We spent all morning on the 29th of Jan. exploring the area and looking for locations to place the clues. It was snowing really hard and it was so peaceful and quiet there. I hope you enjoy the area as much as we did. At the 3rd stop make sure you check this area out really carefully, you sure don’t want to miss the at least 2 other items (Benchmarks) in the immediate area around the clue. On the 2nd stop I think I had a typo so you may need to swap the last 2 digits for the West coord. However, those of you familiar with my other caches should have no trouble figuring out where I placed this clue. You will think………. Wow, just look at that, how odd!
All clues are hidden well and may not be seen easily, but they are there! Don’t give up. At the final location the rocks in the area may make getting a good reading difficult. Please be careful going from stop 5 to 6 and be mindful of any property boundaries along the way also. I personally would NOT bring small children.

10 Logs: Found it 4  Didn't find it 4  Write note 1  Needs Maintenance 1

Well this is finally a found log. Last year we came up twice and the furthest we got was stage three. I had gotten the stage 4 coordinates but didn't continue because we had run out of daylight but for some reason they weren't entered in my GPS.
I returned today to redo that stage and could not find the item I had found before. I returned to stage 2 & couldn't find that one either.
I had no choice but to PAF. I actually contacted two previous finders and they both came through. I was soon back on my way to find the last several stages then the tough hike to the final especially with the snow on the north slopes. I had to use the spoiler photo as the coordinates didn't seem to be the right place. I spotted it pretty quickly as I was only about 60? Feet away. So glad to finally get a smilie here. This multi would be fun if all the stages had been in place but it would still take several good hours.

Fantastic multi! I started this one some time ago. I was stopped at stage 3. I even made 2 or 3 different attempts. Recently CrumbCrunchers decided to tackle this one and was able to complete it and assure me each stage was in fact there. Today after work I decided to give it another go with only a nudge for stage 3. Huh....??? How did I miss that!?!? ha ha ha! Well from there I was off. Each stage is different and devious! Well played!! Loved it! This is truly a tough hunt! Keep your eyes peeled and examine everything! At the final I made a quick find. Considering everything up to this point I was shocked! Signed and stamped the log and replaced as found. All is well. Took some time to enjoy the views at the top and snap a few pictures. Thanks again for a great adventure! Favorite for sure!

I managed to find the first waypoint pretty quickly. Contrary to the cache description, there is now only one set of coordinates at the first waypoint. Unfortunately, this set is already fading. Despite a 50 minute search, I was unable to come up with the second waypoint. For me, the waypoint plotted equidistant between five possible hiding locations, and it was just too much ground to cover.

I had a great afternoon hunting down waypoints for this cache. Beautiful views and unique hides made it worth while. I had some saved waypoints from a previous attempt. Things were mixed up at first but once I got to the benchmarks it was pretty smooth sailing! Thanks to the co for helping me out!

Cache is good to go. All waypoints have been verified. Very little snow up there.

I will visit the area and fix the WPs that may be missing.

We made our way up here today to tackle this tough multi. I was thrilled when we found WP1 pretty quickly. Unfortunately my hopes were dashed at WP2. We tried both coordinates & found a spot where it may have been moved to by the last finders. We then circled the butte trying to place the spoiler picture with no luck. Our last ditch effort was looking for the benchmark (we could only find one) and searching that immediate area for WP3-also no luck there. ?? Bummed

After today's event, I thought I would attempt just one more, the last one in the park that I hadn't tried. Took a while just with stage 1. Was glad to finally uncover that. Stage 2 was easy but it looks like something has been munching on the container. Stage 3 is where it ended for me. I found the two benchmarks but not the only thing I really cared about, the next set of coordinates. Sure was an interesting hike to get up there and back. But I guess that's how you experience colorful Colorado for real! Enjoyed the views regardless. After reading previous logs, I don't feel too bad that I didn't get this on the one try.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment I have this habit of going out after particularly challenging multis, or ones that are rarely found, on days when I'm caching by myself. I often come away from these expeditions empty handed, and today was no exception. I have no idea why I keep doing this to myself.

I met up with Mike from MikeAndJuli this morning; I thought we might be able to cache-out Homestead Ranch Park today since each of us already had a few finds there. Instead, we ended up not doing much more than finding this multi-cache from start to finish. I think it may have taken us just a little less than 3 hours to complete this cache. The sometimes steep terrain and snow covered ground definitely slowed our progress at times.

For some unknown reason, we made things much more difficult than they needed to be at stage 2. Many of the stages were very difficult hides and/or clever ways of providing the next set of coordinates. There were great views at a few of the stages. I was glad that we were able to find 2 benchmarks along the way also. At the final, we had to expand our search radius quite a bit to find the cache.

All in all, this was a satisfying multi-cache that I'm glad we were able to complete in a single trip to this park.

TFTC!
