CONGRATULATIONS TO Cache U FOR FTF!!!

THIS IS A PUZZLE CACHE. IT IS NOT LOCATED AT THE LISTED COORDINATES. Do not go there. Instead, read details about the cache below, have fun discovering the locations of the art pieces, and then calculate the coordinates for the physical cache.

Fort Collins’ residents and visitors are blessed with a diverse array of interesting art forms viewable from public vantages. This puzzle is one in a continuing series that requires locating specific art works or related structures (such as publicly-displayed clocks, unique buildings or conspicuous features) that are shown in photographs. Each is within the city limits of Fort Collins. Once found, simple arithmetic or other manipulations of the object’s coordinates need to be made in order to calculate the actual location of the cache. Other puzzle caches in this series include:

  • GC40N9R What Time Ya Got, Fort Collins?
  • GC3F8DW Ride a Painted Pony
  • GC20VW5 Disneyland.... Here?
  • GC4VJZ3 Where ART Thou, Fort Collins?
  • GC4W39K Where ART Thou, Fort Collins? #2

Ten pieces of public art in Fort Collins are featured as images through photo hot links on this cache page. Each is assigned a unique letter. To calculate the cache coordinates you will need to find the locations of all 10 of these objects. Finding certain pieces might be challenging, but by pursuing them you will perhaps learn more about The Choice City and its amenities. Enjoy your hunt!

After you have discovered the location of each art object determine it’s Latitude. Then use the Latitude’s integer minutes in the simple equations below to calculate the coordinates of the physical cache container and its geocaching treasure: its log sheet! For example, if the Latitude of the art is N 40° 32.671, the number to use is “32". Do NOT round up.

PLACE LATITUDE

A = ______________ ______ int min

B = ______________ ______ int min

C = ______________ ______ int min

D = ______________ ______ int min

E = ______________ ______ int min

*F = ______________ ______ int min

G = ______________ ______ int min

H = ______________ ______ int min

J = ______________ ______ int min

K = ______________ ______ int min

P=E+H+A-95=

Q=((G+C)/2)-28=

R=E+J+F-96=

S=D+A-B-34=

W=2(K+F)-130=

X=C+H+A-99=

Y=4(G+K)-279=

Z=((J+D+G)/2-51=

The coordinates for the cache are:

N 40° 3P.QRS

W 105° 0W.XYZ

[*A NOTE ON ART OBJECT F. ITS LATITUDE IS AT A CHANGE IN INTEGER MINUTES. USE THE LOWER INTEGER MINUTE!]

Enjoy learning more about The Choice City as you seek out the locations of the 10 art pieces needed to solve this puzzle. It’s a darned nice city, and this cache should enhance your familiarity with certain of its special dimensions. The cache is a medium-sized medicine vial that has been camoed.

I extend my appreciation to DES, whose caches in the “Where Are You...” series inspired this puzzle cache. I’ve truly enjoyed the world-wide “searches” I’ve made in order to solve the various puzzles in his series! He’s encouraged me to create this puzzle cache, which is one of several caches of this genre that I am publishing for the Fort Collins area.

Finally started working on this series with Dud&Plato. He had already gotten this one and another one back when the series originally came out. Spent some time racking my brain over where I had seen some of these pieces of artwork. Managed to track down what I needed to solve the puzzle. Took a walk during lunch to grab this one. It's always a pleasant surprise when these mysteries show up in an area I can walk to. I was worried for a bit that maybe it had grown legs or that I was wrong on my calculations, but I managed to spot the cache from the opposite side. Still had trouble actually finding it even after spotting it from the other view. It definitely blends in well. I'm looking forward to logging the rest of the series over the next few weeks. Happy to give some love to this lonely cache and series. TFTC|SL

This is the last of art caches I needed to find. I had some help finding one of the art objects. The area was very over grown and it took me a long time to spot it. We parked in the lot below that said "No Parking". At one point some employees came out and didn't care about our car, but they wanted to know what that lady was doing in the tree! TFTC

Before the recent snowstorm I spent time checking many of my urban and farm caches and making any repairs that were necessary. This cache and the related art pieces are in proper positions, and the cache await finders.

I figured I'd be wise to find this early today since the weather is supposed to be deteriorating as the day progresses. I've had the coordinates figured out for a while, but don't get to this side of town too often. Coordinates were spot-on, and I spied the cache container fairly quickly. I was surprised no one has found this cache since last fall. Out of the entire series, I thought this was one of the easier ones to figure out. My favorite art was B - the watermelons. Cache was in great shape. SL. TFTC!

Well Denali is right, it's there. Maybe I'm going blind, maybe a twig was covering it, I don't know but I searched this "spot" from top to bottom and didn't see it and I even knew what to look for after finding #1 & #2 in the series but for whatever reason it eluded me. Thanks for verifying it's there and it's just me that had trouble, or maybe you said some magic words to make it visible for me, either way I had searched for this between this spot and others in the area for over 30 minutes the first time out here and today I found it instantly when I got to GZ. Maybe my trip to Colorado Springs was the trick, either way I'll give this one a favorite just for the effort Denali has put into this series and because this one was not only difficult but really made me think about it all weekend and gave me the desire to come back ASAP once I got back to town to find it, sign it, and check it off my list. Thanks again for a great series that has had me running all over town stopping on every corner to look for pieces of art that I've ignored my whole life. It's worth the fun!
