In fact it's not too far away from where you need to look.
The coordinates are to the trailhead and the best place to start.

We may be experienced cachers, but our reading skills are apparently lacking. Having solved the puzzle, we should have known where to look for the cache. One needs to keep a sense of humor when caching. Thanks for the cache!

Leave it to a couple experienced cachers to make this way harder than it needed to be. There was some GPS bounce in there but we finally found it in the place we should have checked first. TFTC
