!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

"COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST"

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have 'walked' before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit Quest' group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the "Walking Through History Clan" contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of "Colorado Spirit Quest #1 - Mountain Passage".  Use the 'Send Message" link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries - AVOID this series.

The first burial in Spring Valley Cemetery occurred in 1870 and the cemetery is still in use today. Some of the original headstones are still visible.

In strolling through the aisles, we noticed a few well-known local names. The Noe and Best families, early pioneers in southern Douglas County, have several sites. You may well notice other familiar, local names. Spring Valley was a stagecoach stop and the original one-room schoolhouse still stands about 1/2 mile south of the cemetery.

To find this cache, park and walk through the ghosts of the past, both named and unknown.

I picked this one up while in the local area. Although I was never focused on it, I finally logged Vort's Spirit Quest Challenge last month. I have about 40 of these caches scattered across the state. I still have a long way to go, but I've found some so far out that it would seem silly not to finish the challenge. Along the way in Colorado and other state cemeteries, I've found that I am starting to go out of my way to look at headstones and ponder. Is that morbid? I hope not. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

I stopped here for a yearly personal time visit on my birthday. I found the cache and then spent some time walking around and thanking all the Vets for what they had offered to this country. These places always help me center myself. So calming. Thank you for placing the cache here and having it out here for all of us to find. Cache is still in great shape.

- Did you hear about the guy who got hit in the head with a can of soda? He was lucky it was a soft drink.

Today, after the CITO, I cached around the Larkspur/Palmer Lake/Monument area. There are several caches around that I haven't grabbed and this was the day to change that. During my journey I was enchanted by big blue skies and beautiful views of the mountains.

Sometimes I struggle to find an easy cache. This was one of them. I circled around several times before spotting what was right in front of my face. TFTC!

A favorite location in Colorado. It gets a favorite too! We are visiting family in Black Forest. We were on many old roads, but new caches for us today. We were able to pick-up 27 caches in less than three hours driving on a cool day and enjoying beautiful surroundings. Thanks! SL
