A Short Piling with GPS on top.
Two Tall Pilings with Ani in between.
Steep!

Castle? What Castle?
Once upon a time, a castle may have stood here. Regardless, it must have been impressive. There are a set of vertical pipes that must have served as footings for the structure. One is pictured. In addition to those smaller ones, some really tall ones are there too. (see picture) I think all of them were tall ones and some were sawn off. Anyway, here's the plan: get to the site and count how many big ones like the ones Ani is between and how many little ones like the ones in the photo with my GPS. Carefully climb back down and send me an email with your count. I'd also like to hear any of your ideas of what used to be there resting on those pilings. DO NOT REVEAL ANY HINTS IN YOUR LOG ENTRY!

Have fun, take lots of pictures, be safe. This trail is not recommended for children, vehicles of any type, nor those afraid of heights. Total hike from the closest trailhead is about 1.5 miles each way.

Did something of a rush job getting here. Hiked up from below, stopped for two caches (both looking like DNFs but going to look another time and check them). Also just so happened to have hiked to the wrong side of Red Mountain , something of a minor comedy of errors. Ah well. The photo is taken looking north toward the other ruins. Have to say, more of a watch tower than castle I hope. Lack of water would kill you in a siege up her.

I've wanted to make the hike up to Redstone Castle for years. It's one of the few Colorado Virtual caches that I haven't found. But every time I've been in the area I've been rushed and simply have not had the time for the hike. So when icezebra11 and I learned we would not be spending the day hiking to caches at Devil's Playground we decided on caching around Manitou Springs; I lobbied for this to be our first cache of the day. Brad immediately agreed! So we drove down from northern Colorado to the Manitou Springs area and were lucky to find a pay-for-parking space reasonably close to the trailhead. It got hot later in the day, but conditions were cool as we made our early hike to the top. There, we counted the tall and low steel posts, took some photos, and admired the views. Icezebra11 has sent our answers. Thanks for this Virtual at an interesting location!

A couple weeks ago Denali41 and I made plans to travel south today to the Pike's Peak/Colorado Springs area to go after a bunch of caches, starting at the top of the peak and working our way back down the mountain toward CS. Last night I texted my son who lives in the Springs that we'd be there today and asked if he wanted to hike with us in the Devil's Playground area. He said "good luck" because the Hill Climb was happening today. So we had to alter our plan to eliminate all the caches above the toll booth. We still had a full day of caching, as we fully expected we wouldn't be able to get to all the caches on the target list, even without the caches on PP.

This was the first cache we went for today. We found a pay parking spot on Ruxton, figuring two hours should be enough to get us to this cache and back (along with stops at a few others nearby.) We had a nice hike up to the castle location and obtained the information necessary for this cache. We enjoyed the views for a little bit before heading back down the trail. Not really sure what would have been here, maybe a watchtower? A neat location for sure!

Thanks Gil&Ani for creating this virtual and luring us here!!! (answers emailed)

Been wanting to hike up here & find this virtual for years. Parking in Manitou has really become a challenge but we found the $5 guy. Anyway there used to be another incline that came up Here & competed with the one across the way. It's a very interesting history that is on the internet. Answers have been sent.

I was sluggish and not feeling like exercising all week, but I finally got talked into this great hike. Started off freezing, but by the time we got to the top I was warmed up and actually running to the peak from our last find. Thanks for placing this cache for us to enjoy!
