GCC46E Unknown Cache Sneaky #1
Type: Mystery | Size: Small Small | Difficulty: 3 out of 5 | Terrain: 1.5 out of 5
By: Jim Reeb @ | Hide Date: 01/14/2003 | Status: Available
Country: United States | State: Colorado
Coordinates: N39° 30.077 W104° 45.781 | Last updated: 08/30/2019 | Fav points: 0

This is number one of a pair of caches inspired by a discussion given at the January meeting of CACHE. If you were there this will be a piece of cake. Yeah, right.
Ignore the above coordinates.

The legal description of the cache is: SE ¼ of NW ¼, S27, T6S, R66W, 6PM.

The cache is 145 meters E and 479 meters N of the SW corner of the SE 1/4.

The cache is in a 20 fl. oz. snow white container. Have fun if it snows. It is a coin cache. The starting coin is year 2000. Replace it with a one year earlier coin or whatever you might have.

Not all Internet sources are created equal and some will return incorrect information.
One of them is http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
However, it is the easiest to use and the cache location is based on it.
If we all use the same wrong information our solutions will match. Life pretty much works that way.

A more accurate source, provided by jsarche, is http://www.geocommunicator.gov/LSIS6/map.jsp
but it is more difficult to work with and if you use it, the puzzle solution will be wrong.

If you can tell me why this is called a sneaky cache I will tell you the waypoint of Sneaky #2 or the first waypoint of any of my other caches.

Today I did a little solo caching before heading out with the group. Thanks for the mind bending puzzle and the fun hide. Tftc!

Got help on this one at one of the recent puzzle events. Today we decided to get it for our puzzle of the day. Parked and made the nice walk with our dog Fred. Beautiful warm March day. It was a quick find due to no snow and also EXCELLENT coords. Lid is cracking and no longer fits securely.

Got a little help from the CO on this one. Nicely done. Signed log.

Thanks Jim Reeb for giving me a reason to get outside. It’s always worth it when you are enjoying nature. There is nothing better than acting like a kid again, digging through weeds and climbing trees, all to sign my name on a piece of paper.

I will admit that I needed a bit of assistance on this puzzle. Fortunately, I know smart people who can hang with other smart people like yourself. As much as it pains me to admit, herndonrd is a smart person. He is also a good person (at least that is what his wife told me) and was kind enough to help me get to the finish line on this puzzle. Definitely a favorite for the sneakiness.

I enjoyed this puzzle in part because it gets me very close to finally completing the Uber Mystery Challenge (less than thirty to go).  In addition, finding a puzzle today helps with another puzzle (canned language about my insanity to follow).

I chose today to look for this one because I signed an insane challenge in California that requires me to find a puzzle cache on every calendar day of the year (save February 29th) in order to meet the logging requirements. I am thrilled to be one day closer to completing the challenge, though I still have just over sixty days to go. Thanks for the fun puzzle, hide, and for getting me outside on such a beautiful day.

P. S. No animals (humans or otherwise) were harmed in the writing of this log.

Confirmed the solution with the CO and now time to log. Very sneaky! TFTFC!

What a day! 34 caches. 14 Traditional, 12 Puzzle, 3 Virtual, 2 Letterbox, 2 Multi and 1 Wherigo. I had been planning on a big day in Parker and while I didn’t get everything on my list, I got most of it and completed the Planetary Pursuit Souvenir challenge. Lots of great caches and good challenges. Here’s a little something about this one.

This was quite the puzzle solve. In fact, it was so difficult I can't even remember what I did to solve it!

I did make the find fairly quickly! Unlike the other Sneaky cache. Or was it that one that was easy and this one wasn't? I can't remember. After a while, they all start to seem the same. :)

Thanks for the hide Jim Reeb

This was a really fun puzzle and a more challenging hide. Solved this puzzle and then got confirmation from you the CO that I was correct. Super sneaky and definitely a favorite.
Keeping our streak streak. Thanks for placing this cache and keeping our recreation going. SL/with PoshCacher. Tftc

While others were out jumping from shopping center to shopping center to score the best Black Friday deals, T&A137 and I went to find some puzzles and other caches we have had on our radar. Just a slight breeze this morning and the temperatures were rising just enough to take care of the rest of that leftover snow and make the ground a little muddy or slippery depending on where we were.

I have had a goal to get your puzzles completed this winter, Jim. So I am happy to finally get this one off my naughty list. Stellar work here Jim as usual. One down, many more to go! Thanks for a fun puzzle!

Out for a walk today picking up some puzzles we solved. Thanks so much for this one!

Amazing how much difference there can be in different sources of survey data. Used too-accurate sources and failed, then used the recommended source and succeeded. TFTC

Took me a while to solve the puzzle, but I had some experience in townships and sections from my Scouting past. The cache owner generously helped me tweak the final coordinates since this is a "target-rich" area of possible hiding spots. Found during a bike ride with the teenagers today and signed the log. Fun cache!

Now I will concentrate on the "Sneaky #2" cache...

Wow I can't believe I finally solved this puzzle and found the cache. I had started this many many years ago & had a partial solution. Then over the years and a few more puzzles I learned about other resources that eventually allowed me to figure out some actual coordinates that got me a success response (within a hundred feet) on the checker & that gave me hope. Riding in the area today & of course when I got to GZ there were muggles:-(
So I stopped on my return & the coast was clear. My coordinates got me right to the cache. Success!

Wow! As an out-of-towner getting to Colorado Springs a lot.. this one is nearly a who's who of the names I see there.
I can't imagine when or why I worked this puzzle.... my wife & I never get north of Castle Rock. And, I have even been looking at it in my solved notebook for eons thinking all the while I had seen the "?" on the map way down by Spruce Mountain. Today I got the chance for the long ramble north and even in the snow at dusk I managed an extremely short hunt here!! Thanks for the ?

Just when you think you have seen it all you are proven wrong. Not much I can say without giving away important information. What I will say is well done and the name is fitting...TFTC SL
