Pennies are traditionally the smallest denomination of currency.  But, in fact, only Great Britain officially has "pennies."  In the United States, these coins are "One Cent" or 1/100 of a dollar.

There are about 140 billion one-cent coins in circulation in the US.  Most countries have stopped producing coins with so little value since it costs more than their face value to mint them.  And when is the last time you used a penny for a purchase?  It takes a second to tap your phone or card but potentially minutes to count out loose change.  If you're like me, you have cans or jars full of pennies and consider them useless.

Click on the image below (or here) for the puzzle.  This is a small percentage of the pennies from my jar!  Good luck!

Congratulations to WingsAndTales - First to Find!

A twofer day; an Ernie puzzle and an Ernie virtual. In the 7 years I have lived here, I think this is only the 3rd time I have been here. I actually solved this one myself and it took me a goodly amount of time. The cache container made me smile. Thanks for the geo-fun.

I love the ongoing theme of this cache.
My solve time on this puzzle was dreadful. Although I was at work so I was a little distracted. (1:04:20)
I had the whole place to myself at lunchtime. Is this place deserted?

Thank you ernie66 for placing and maintaining "Pennies" for me to find and log. Thursday January 18, 2024 1:27 PM

We loved solving this puzzle. Almost empty parking lot this morning. Nice cache container! Tftc.

Done. Oldest cent I've found is a 1920, on the ground below a gas pump at Sam's club. Imagine that.

Amazing how coins have changed throughout the years.
Here's a pic of one of these new Lincoln shield cents alongside a Draped Bust cent and a half-cent from 1803!
Thanks for the fun puzzle and nice container at an appropriate location. I had fun doing this.

I saw it had published and went to work on it and what do you know I was able to solve it.

Not the best of conditions outside, so I added a extra layer and with my wife’s advice wore my heavy coat

Got close to GZ and someone’s parked there, oh no the dreaded 2TF.

Wait a minute, I got closer and saw the TB sticker in the back window, pulled up along side a it’s WingsAndTales.

When she saw me, I am sure that was the second smiley for this cache.

Chatted a bit from the vehicles and parted ways.

Thanks for the penny cache!

By the way, for a small fee I will haul all the jugs of pennies off for you.

Apparently someone doesn't have the cents to stay inside when it's this cold -- Brrrr! You go, girl!

I was getting my car worked on when the notification came through so it gave me something productive to do. As soon as the car was done I headed over and found a blank log. I usually don't chase FTFs but since I was already out it was worth it. TFTC
