Scenic view  Available during winter  Dangerous Animals  Not Wheelchair accessible  Short hike (less than 1km)

Give yourself a "Standing O" after you climb above the "L" to nab this little gem.  It's a bison tube that matches one of the school colors of the Lyons Lions.

If you're on the Lyons Cross-Country or Track team, you've already run up this short but steep trail  a hundred times.  If you're anybody else, take it slow so you can enjoy the view and make sure you have shoes with good traction.

There's an East-West double-track trail just uphill and south of the Lyons High School baseball and softball diamonds.  From there, look for a trail running South (and UP) that's between two barbed-wire fences, just East of the Open Space land.  You'll hike past the big "L" that gets repainted every year by the Lyons Senior Class (though they often spend more time flinging paint at each other).  Before you get to the top of the ridge, you'll need to traverse the slope to find the cache.  Watch for rattlers in the Summer and be prepared to slip and slide a bit if its snowy.   Bring a pen.

You can approach this from the Picture Rock Trailhead or from the school parking lot.  There's also a connecting trail from Bohn Park, but that route is not recommended because the Park was wrecked in the September Flood.

Wow, good hike and great view.
I've camped in the field below once a year for more than a decade waiting for Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival to begin. I've gotten the bulk of the caches around Lyons and even have a few hides, but I'd put this one off. It was all I expected. Glad it was cooler and overcast with the threat of rain that didn't change me till I was fully down. The cache and log was in great shape. SL TFTC

Hoo boy, that was steep, but after Alexander Mt, it didn't seem that bad. I couldn't come back down the trail though as it was too gravelly, so I had to switchback down through the vegetation. I hate to do that, but the trail just wasn't safe. I can't believe people run it!

I walked up from the high school and purposely came on the weekend to avoid the kids, but there were a surprising number of people hiking or biking around the L. I spotted a dog park from up there and took Suzy for a walk around it. Thanks!

Wow! That was a lung burner! Made it most of the way up with my mountain bike, then had to ditch it. Nice view in a great spot! 3/3 today. Thank you!
