What a fantastic way to kick off the new year!

 

On January 1 2018, a small, but eager group met up for a hike and some caching.

 

 

In attendance were Brennan7, 3WilliamsKidz, YamaGypsy, RPieperCO, Kerewin0430, and KTrackers!

 

With our GPS's loaded, gear strapped on, spare battery backups for our devices stowed, and boots laced tight we set out on a mission!  It was to get as many caches as we could manage in a loop that included one that hadn't been found in 5 years and 2 months!

 

It was a very successful day!  One minor injury to a thumb (Sorry Kerewin, that was my fault!) and two wet feet!  (Sorry you fell through the ice KTrackers!)

 

Caches were logged, great stories were shared, beautiful scenery and weather abounded!  Could anyone start a new year off any better?  I think not!

 

As is my tradition, I brought along a container to place randomly on our route.  This nice little spot has some great views!  Brennan was kind enough to place the cache.  FYI, he's young and nimble!  It's a great spot for a break before heading on.

I had time for a hike this morning and was going to be in the area anyway so up the trail I went. Krazykatzen happened to be going the same way and came up the trail while I was still searching at GZ. He graciously stayed and made sure I safely finished the cache before we parted ways. I didn't see it until I was almost face to face with it. TFTC

Lots of butterflies everywhere. At the base of the hill in the meadows were lilies blooming, which was an unexpected surprise. Great view of Caprock from the cache hiding spot, but right as I got the lid popped off, a gust of wind blew it out from my hands. I landed nearby, but as a reached for it, another gust blew it to the ground. A nearby nuthatch was laughing at me the entire time... seriously, he sounded like "hah! hah!". Nuthatch, stop it now!

Found it! Omg , this used to be my fav thing to do. I had kind of forgotten . If you were looking for me as a kid or teen, that’s where I’d be. Managed to get this birds eye view without dropping anything. Leaving tb. Tftc.
