CONGRATULATIONS TO Niblet Sr FOR FTF!!

THIS IS A PUZZLE CACHE. IT IS NOT LOCATED AT THE LISTED COORDINATES. Do not go there. Instead, read details about the cache below, have fun discovering the locations of the art pieces, and then calculate the coordinates for the physical cache.

Fort Collins’ residents and visitors are blessed with a diverse array of interesting art forms viewable from public vantages. This puzzle is one in a continuing series that requires locating specific art works or related structures (such as publicly-displayed clocks, unique buildings or conspicuous features) that are shown in photographs. Each is within the city limits of Fort Collins. Once found, simple arithmetic or other manipulations of the object’s coordinates need to be made in order to calculate the actual location of the cache. Other puzzle caches in this series include:

  • GC40N9R What Time Ya Got, Fort Collins?
  • GC3F8DW Ride a Painted Pony
  • GC20VW5 Disneyland.... Here?
  • GC4VJZ3 Where ART Thou, Fort Collins?

Ten pieces of public art in Fort Collins are featured as images through photo hot links on this cache page. Each is assigned a unique letter. To calculate the cache coordinates you will need to find the locations of all 10 of these objects. Finding certain pieces might be challenging, but by pursuing them you will perhaps learn more about The Choice City and its amenities. Enjoy your hunt!

After you have discovered the location of each art object determine it’s Latitude. Then use the Latitude’s integer minutes in the simple equations below to calculate the coordinates of the physical cache container and its geocaching treasure: its log sheet! For example, if the Latitude of the art is N 40° 32.671, the number to use is “32". Do NOT round up.

PLACE LATITUDE

A = ______________ ______ int min

B = ______________ ______ int min

C = ______________ ______ int min

D = ______________ ______ int min

E = ______________ ______ int min

F = ______________ ______ int min

G = ______________ ______ int min

H = ______________ ______ int min

J = ______________ ______ int min

K = ______________ ______ int min

P=D+B-J-27=

Q=((J+C)/2)-29=

R=2(K+G)-130=

S=D+F-G-37=

W=E+H+F-97=

X=3(A+10)-132=

Y=4(K-B)-4=

Z=A+E+H-100 =

The coordinates for the cache are:

N 40° 3P.QRS

W 105° 0W.XYZ

Enjoy learning more about The Choice City as you seek out the locations of the 10 art pieces needed to solve this puzzle. It’s a darned nice city, and this cache should enhance your familiarity with certain of its special dimensions. The cache is a medium-sized medicine vial that has been camoed.

I extend my appreciation to DES, whose caches in the “Where Are You...” series inspired this puzzle cache. I’ve truly enjoyed the world-wide “searches” I’ve made in order to solve the various puzzles in his series! He’s encouraged me to create this puzzle cache, which is one of several caches of this genre that I am publishing for the Fort Collins area.

This series has really been a great challenge and so much fun. I have found some of the art objects on line, recognized some of them, and just have to be more observant for the rest. I found 2 more art objects today--so exciting! After we found this cache on the way back to the car a man on a huge riding mower pulled up next to us and said we've been muggled. He use to cache and knew exactly what we were doing! Had a short conversation and then we were on our way! TFTC

Before the recent snowstorm I spent time checking many of my urban and farm caches and making any repairs that were necessary. This cache and the related art pieces are in proper positions, and the cache await finders.

[The wind sure was nippy this morning! It took a couple of minutes to find the cache container, but I'm sure the cold wind helped keep the muggles away. I needed help with one of the sculptures, and the fence, but a friend nudged me in the right direction. I used a variety of techniques to locate all the pieces. Some I was already familiar with.] The City of Fort Collins website on Art in Public Places only helped on a couple of places. [I still checked all the locations in person to make sure nothing had been moved. Thanks for a good puzzle! Just SL.]

Well unfortunately by the time I got here it was already dark which didn't make the find any easier, but after finding all the artwork I figured this should be the easy part! Even in the dark it wasn't too bad , though it was fairly hard to get to. Thanks for all the fun running around town and making me "notice" artwork I normally pass on by! I look forward to finishing and turning in the others. Thanks Denali!

This one in the series proved a bit more difficult than the others. I got hung up on two of the pieces for months, but eventually I spotted one of them on my way home from a Denver visit. The final piece proved challenging, but with a little driving around I located it. I have had the coords for a few weeks but just now got some time when I was in the right part of town to track the physical cache down. There were lots of muggles in the area, so my search efforts were slow. Eventually, I located the cache. This is the last one for me in this series (until more are published). Thanks for the fun series!

As I posted on the original Where ART Thou cache, I encourage anybody wanting to do this series to sit back and relax at home and use your favorite internet browser to work some magic. It won't get you all of them, but your efforts will be rewarded. Using other tools online also helped save some gas as well.
