Another cache to find along the ridge. There is a good string of caches along the ridge from south of the
scar to north of Blodgett Peak. This is another cache to hunt for
along the way. Enjoy the views!
Cache is not far from a trail.
A note about the cache itself: This was the container used for
Into the Vacuum, a cache named after the Jackie Fly song of the
same name...and the name was also fitting as it was in a city where
they used to make Hoover vacuum cleaners. Since the cache is now
out of that city, it has been renamed to "Out of the Vacuum". Most
of the contents are from the original 'Into' cache, so if you are
one of the few to have found the 'Into' cache you may experience a
little deja vu with this cache...
03/23/2018 By GoMRT I remember when I was a very young lad in the 70's watching the back of the biiiiig Zenith vacuum tube TV in the living room be opened and seeing all of the vacuum tubes in there. It was interesting because you had to find the one that was blown, take it to a vacuum tube test kiosk, then figure out the replacement if it was actually blown. The days of the snap and the crackle of the vacuum tube TVs are something that the current generation has absolutely no clue about. The same can be said for turning on the television after sitting for a while and dust collected on top of the vacuum tubes. Once you turned it on after being off for a while, you thought the house was going to burn down because of the smell of the dust burning off.
This geocache has seen better days. Take a look at the attached photograph. The ammo can got hit by the fire and the weather has taken its toll on it as well. It's starting to rust and fall apart badly. I propped it into the best location possible so the log could still be accessible and be protected from the elements. Warning - There are rusty sharp edges as you reach for the log.
This is a great geocache to come get along this ridge if you come from the direction of Ormes Peak.

09/25/2016 By SnailMan1 I didn't know if I was going to get the charred ammo can open. It eventually opened and I must say it is sad shape. TFTC.
09/12/2015 By Egnix I still need to check on/replace the cache, but since the area is open now, I'm re-enabling it.
07/11/2015 By SwimFin SwimFin found this cache quickly and in a charred ammo can as previously described (once I got to the area). Left a signature dolphin key chain. I think this cache is still operable; geocachers will have to be careful with the container and it serves as a memorial to the tragic fire. Cheers, SwimFin!
10/19/2014 By Egnix Thanks Ernie for mentioning the area is now open. I missed the announcement. Though I'm going to keep this cache disabled until I can replace it.
10/18/2014 By ernie66 Estes01 and I set out to explore this newly-opened area of the National Forest. We found the ammo can but most of the contents were destroyed. The only thing recognizable was a vacuum tube - it probably still works. The box of crayons was interesting - no wax left, just paper! We left a new log in a ziploc.
How we found the cache.
06/04/2014 By Egnix The "restricted area" order has been extended another year. :(
06/23/2012 By Egnix Disabling due to the Waldo Canyon fire.
12/25/2011 By kenyansherpa With the kids grown ( and with kids of their own ), Christmas morning is different. We had the family together yesterday and today they are off to their in-laws. So I had a free am and I gave myself the present of caching. It was highlighted by excellent caches like this one. It was quite a slog thru the snow and thank goodness this one is large enough to spot despite the snow cover. TFTH!!!
