#1 in a series of full-size harder to reach Deer Creek caches named after some fantastic British sci-fi novels.

Revelation Space is Alistair Reynold's first major sci-fi novel. Based 500 years from now in a time when it takes about 60 years to travel between solar systems but faster than light travel is still not possible. A fantastic tale of a civilization under threat from an enemy that has been sleeping and waiting for millions of years.

I don't think there is an easy way to get to this cache, or not one that I took anyway. Hence the 4 difficulty rating. This is a full size plastic ammo can hidden in a large rock. I got to this location by walking up from the small parking area to the clearing about 10 minutes up the trail. The clearing is under the trees and has a small campfire in the middle. From there I headed off the trail straight up the very steep hill. There may be an easier way, but this route is somewhat of a scramble. it took us about 40 minutes or so to get to GZ from the car.

GPS bounced around quite a bit but I tried to average out a couple of readings.

Enjoyed the hike up and the easier hike back down more. Found a few likely spots in and around the rock, but none with a container of any size.

This was a beast! I approached it from another cache in the river valley that stayed at the same iso elevation line. A long slog through heavy brush on a steep slope. I finally made it to the area only to find that I was too high. By that time I was very exhausted. I searched and searched and reread the clues with no luck. On the way down I fell 3 times. It was a disaster! I'll try again in warmer weather, but that was very difficult and too much work for not finding anything. Oh well.

Fun STF with animjason on a last minute trip to get caches of interest here and there.

Great hike up here. It was a good thing that we took the longer way around -- the melting snow on the ground made traction difficult.

Speaking of the cache title, had a revelation when we finally reached this one -- the terrain rating could be higher. :-)

Picked up a geocoin that I will move along.

Took the direct way back down to the road and improved my sliding skills! We were totally soaked by the time we reached the road but had a lot of fun in the process. The views were outstanding. Thanks for the more difficult, but completely worth it, hide!

Fourth cache of the day with nerak. Last minute decision to go snow caching together for some specific targets. Didn't get all we had planned, but had a great day.

Write up says 4 difficulty, but it shows 3.5, but in this snow covered mountain, with river trails from snow melt, made it a 4 or 4.5. Super difficult and fun. The melting tree snow rained on us and occasionally threw softball sized slush balls on us. We got SOAKED. Worth it!

Gets a FAVE. Discovered trackables and picked up one. We took a longer and probably more difficult route since snow covered all trails and open areas. Loved it.

Thanks proteus75! Logged Revelation Space from a seventh galaxy using c:geo!

I thought it was about time someone found this cache so off I went after hiding a new cache of my own (not anywhere near here). I did not use the trail suggested but found an easier way up. I thought I would follow the steeper trail back down but never actually found the trail and ended up in some dicey territory but I made it down okay. I ended up coming down about 100 feet from the trailhead.

This was a great adventure finding this cache and it definitely gets a favorite point. I made the find at 12:37 pm. The coordinates are perfect for this nicely hidden cache. I took one of the geocoins.

Thanks for the great cache!
