Colorado Oldies

The cache is a black bison tube hidden at the posted coordinates. You must complete the challenge before logging a find on the cache. The difficulty rating reflects how hard it is to complete the challenge. The terrain rating is for the actual find.
The Challenge

This cache is intended to honor those caches in our state that have stood the test of time. There are currently 445 active caches in Colorado that were hidden in the year 2005. In order to log this cache you must find at least 89 Colorado caches from that year.

The Rules

Only caches hidden in the state of Colorado in 2005 count.

All your finds count. If you have finds on caches that are now archived, you may include those. Those cachers who have been around long enough to have a significant number finds on those archived caches will probably qualify without them anyway. Remember that if you use a pocket query to identify your finds it will not include archived caches.

You must show your qualifications in some manner. There is a checker on project-gc.com. Or for those of you that use GSAK, ernie66 has written a macro to help check your qualifications. You can find it here: ColoradoFindsByPlacedYear. You can paste the output from either of those into your log to show your qualifications. Some other options include a text listing in your log or a bookmark list. I have a public list called “CO Oldies Found List” showing my qualifications.

Parking coordinates are included.

Access to this series of caches is off Rampart Range Road on roads 312 and 314. Road 312 is maintained like Rampart Range and passable in almost any car. Road 314 will require a high clearance vehicle but not 4WD if it is dry. My Subaru Outback did it with no problems and there are several wide spots to pull off or turn around. Road 314 eventually becomes one way westbound but not until after the parking area for the last cache in the series. If you don't have a high clearance vehicle then I recommend you park at the intersection of 312 and 314.

Congrats to the FTF: hartsdale

I checked on the area today and spoke with one of the logging contractors. Logging is still planned for this area but there is no firm schedule for it. I will leave this cache disabled until the logging is complete. Sorry for the inconvenience.

There is a massive logging/tree thinning operation going on in the area. There hasn't been too much cutting here yet but many trees are marked. I saw similar markings further south and the crews appear to be coming in this direction. I found the container but removed it while the work is in progress. I will get this one replaced when the work is done. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Caching near Woodland Park before the snow starts falling in earnest. We focused on finding some challenge caches today. Quick find. Signed log and replaced container as found. We do not quite meet the requirements for this cache yet, but we hope to change this note to a smiley in the near future. Thanks for this fun challenge cache!

This is another one I found that day. For the 1st time I am going to try to attach my list as a file. Lets see if it works.

Fourth and the last of the Colorado Oldies series finds for us today. Our qualifications are in the Note we posted on 8/15/2016. Nice hike as we continued through the woods from Oldies 2002 to Oldies 2003 to Oldies 2004 and then lastly over to here. Stamped the log, and since we didn't have any trackables small enough to fit into the Bison Tube, we just closed the container back up, and headed up the road to where we parked on Carroll Lakes Road (FSR 312). Favorite point for the great Challenge Cache idea, and all the adventures we had while working on qualifying. TFTC !

We finally qualify, as shown in the attached photo which is a screen grab from GSAK. THANKS to ernie66 for the macro! Not sure when we will be going for this one, but hopefully sooner vice later.

I finally qualify for this one. This was a really hard challenge but today I got the last one I needed to qualify. I stamped the log on 10/15/2014. Thanks for the challenge!! [8d][8d]
