Jack Rabbit's Solitude

This location brings back many memories of my work for the last 40+ yrs. Working in the oilfield and living in Ne., I have accumulated many miles/hours/trip/etc. thru this junction.

We had a nickname for this place as the 'armpit of Colorado.' Being the fact that regardless of your direction of travel, it's always downhill into this junction.

As far as the name, we had that one figured out too. It's so desolate down there, the jack rabbits pack their lunches. I myself have spent 5 days snowed in at the Port of Entry (now vacant) with all roads closed. Plus I got to know the people who worked at the port because of the many trips thru there. Some of their names are on the signs right above the cache.

The solitude of this area is pretty evident when most of the children have moved to the city and there are many abandoned farmsteads scattered through out Logan County. As you drive north from Stoneham, it becomes one of their most desolate highways in northern Colorado. You are lucky to see a single yard light on your trip north.

Close caches are in the Pawnee National Grasslands, northwest of this cache. They are of a historical nature. More can be found out in New Raymer (west) at one of the local eateries.

As usual hide as good or better.

Taking advantage of the extended weekend to take a little trip. Today we we began by county caching across Nebraska and filling a few empty slots along the way. Then we headed South into Colorado for a few more. It took us a few minutes but we found the cache in good shape. Thanks for placing.

I ended up on an epic adventure with yellowdogs and jREST. I really wanted to go and find GC19. So, I picked a five day stretch to make my attempt. I roped in a couple of caching friends into the misadventure and we were off with my two geodogs. The five of us made an interesting group. We drove over 3000 miles on the trip going out and back. Since we enjoy the same types of caches it was easy to come up with a list. We target the three main kinds of caches: oldies, virtuals, and earthcaches. We threw in a few others mainly to grab a cache in the 72 counties we headed through. Really got to light up that county map. Ended up with 152 caches in the found pile.

The first night was a little rough. We got a late start and headed into some heavy rain. We already had a hotel reserved in Sioux City, IA; so we knew we had to get there. Found one cache to fill the day in for me. The first day was spent caching our way across northern Nebraska. We had a line of counties that we wanted to grab. Some pretty country once you get further west. It is always nice to see the varied topography of the states we visit. After finding 35 caches, we called it a night in Scotts Bluff.
Day 2 dawned sunny, but cool. We wanted to get past Denver, but our route was longer than anticipated. So we ended up a little short. Got to see some interesting spots though. We hit the high point in Nebraska, cached along a lonely stretch of highway in Colorado, picked up some virtuals in the Denver area, before heading into the mountains for the Cache Across America. We continued exploring the mountains before finding a place to sleep for the night west of Denver.

On the third day, we made it into Denver after some virtuals and then headed south through the mountains to GC 19. We made it. The road was open and the weather perfect. Lots of warnings about the fire danger. We picked up a few other caches and even took a detour into New Mexico so yellowdogs could light up the state. Nice. I love it when a plan comes together.

Day 4 found us in Trinidad. We had a long way to go and a short time to get there. Luckily, at this point the route was pretty straight forward. We headed north roughly to Nebraska. We did take a detour to grab GC31. I already had it, but we were too close not to add it to the list. We ended up caching longer than anticipated due to a lack of sleeping options. Finally found a place in Thedford.

Our last day was short and to the point. We had a line of counties between us and the Iowa border and we wanted to find a cache in each of them. We found one or two caches in each of them before hitting the border at noon. Right on schedule After that, it was just a matter of beating feet home.

Thanks to all the COs that placed or created a cache for us to find on this trip. Without you, we would not have found have the interesting places we ended up. I couldn't think of a better way to spend vacation. We used our Team Barcelona stamp to mark all the physical logs.

Even though we already had enough caches in this county, we decided to get one more. Old caches tend to be a priority for us. We found this one after a quick search and waved at all the passing motorists.

Took a bit of a long weekend, well five days anyway and hopped in a car with Boreal Walker and yellowdogs (AKA - Team Barcelona) and headed west aiming for parts unknown. This cache was one of those on the adventure. Rolling south today, plenty of tumble weeds out blowing around today, and a few rabbits making a mad dash across the highway in front of the cache mobile. Most were successful. TNLNSL

I am on a road trip with Boreal Walker and jREST from Minnesota to New Mexico and back meandering our way through as many counties as we could with many target caches in our sights. The weather was decent, although we did have a day that the temperatures reached 100 degrees and we were very thankful for the air conditioning the car provided. We enjoyed our journey and the many laughs along the way along with the great places some of these caches brought us to. We saw at leasr a few jack rabbits on our trip.
Stamped the log Team Barcelona. Thanks for the cache! BigSmile

Day 3 of our travels from NW Montana to GeoWoodstock XVI in Cincinnati, OH - treasure hunting along the way. We are trying to fill in a lot squares on the Fizzy, Hidden Dates, and Jasmer grids for blackdogsMT and add a few key ones on my grids.

We were adding caches along the way to try and have Mingo be blackdogsMT's 2000 cache find. This looked to be an easy, quick find ---and it was. TFTC

Quick find on way to Nebraska. A friend, (betzij) and I are traveling cross country from our home in Western Montana to Cincinnati, Ohio for GeoWoodstock 16, America's first GIGA event May 26th, 2018. Over the course of caching there and back we are concentrating on Challenges, Oldies, Virtuals, Webcams, Larges, Earthcaches and traditionals with dates to finish out my Jasmer, Fizzy and Placed on grids. Thanks for your part in making our two week geocaching trip a memorable one! Dipping my personal TB's for mileage.
