Merry Christmas !

Glenn (Dad) placed this ammo can in the woods while on a search for where we can get our Christmas Tree for 2020 after paying our $20 fee to the US Forest Service to get the required permit; for the Pikes Peak area, the permits are now on sale, online only, and the tree cutting area is very different from previous years -- most notably, the Rampart Range Road area is NOT part of the cutting area.

Here is our Christmas Tree for 2020 in the forest, within about 30 feet of the geocache.

And here is the tree in our home, decorated by 15 year old Erikka who enjoys doing so each year.

We live in Colorado, and each year pay a fee to the US Forest Service, get a permit and head off to Pike National Forest to cut down our Christmas tree from designated areas.  Forest health is important, removing smaller trees contributes to the overall well being of the forest and reduces fire danger.  Pike National Forest is named for famed explorer Zebulon Pike, whose name also adorns nearby Pikes Peak which was the inspiration to Katharine Lee Bates who, in 1895, wrote "America the Beautiful".

We hope everyone has a great Holiday Season with friends and family.

We have made a small family tradition of getting our Christmas Tree from the Pike National Forest each year, and placing a geocache at the same time. This is our fifth year of doing so.

CONGRATULATIONS to hartsdale for being FTF on a frosty Friday morning !

We wanted to cache in the Divide and Lake George areas today before the snow in these areas got a little deeper due to the forecast storms.
This was our first cache of the day. Love the large container full of trackables! Signed the log, traded a couple of trackables, and discovered the rest. Thanks for the cache.

Found it whileL looking at Christmas trees. Thanks so much for placing this one. It gave a method to our madness??. We had two first timer tree hunters?, One of which was my 80-year-old mother and she had never done this before and she had a complete blast tromping through the forest looking for a tree. Looking for your geocache first it was a requirement of course. I loved your cache contents?. I took a path tag , thanks so much and they’re so creative?. I took two trackable’s and I am going to discover the rest. Always love your geocache finds! Tftc??

Lots of traffic on the 51 today. It seems that there are many lumberjacks out and about. The hide was easy to find with all the tracks in the snow. We just love finding an ammo can in the woods! Lots of nice swag inside and many trackables to trade and discover. Tftc.

2TF on this cold November morning. Followed the footprints layed out to me in the snow by HD and had no trouble finding another of the 3 Williams Kidz Christmas caches. Happy that they are keeping up with tradition. TN, SL and drove back home before the Christmas tree cutters came in for the day. Plenty of parking for this cache site. Thanks to the CO for placing another great cache and for bringing me out into the cold. Always a pleasure. Gets a favorite point. Merry Christmas to all.

FTF!

More after my fingers warm up...

I saw this one the instant it published yesterday mid-afternoon and was tempted to head out after it, but then decided to see if it lasted overnight and to my surprise it did.

The drive ?? up the pass was deserted and hitting the fresh snow ?? on the road just before Woodland Park, reminded me back when we looked for the perfect Christmas somewhere in the Pike National Forest .....

Thanks for the memories, nice size container and a ( oooohh, aaahhh) first to find prize!
