On a the Killpecker trail to Middle Bald Mountain, for both hikers and drivers (depending on whether Killpecker Road/Forest Rd 300 is open)

This is a great hike to Middle Bald Mountain. The cache is located near the first intersection of the Killpecker Trail and the Killpecker Road. The Killpecker Rd/Forest Rd 300 gate is closed typically from December through mid-June. This might be difficult to find in the winter.

You can approach this cache by several different ways. First, you can start at the Killpecker Trailhead and follow the trail for approximately 1.5 miles. I rated the terrain at a 3 for the length of the hike. Second, you can drive on Killpecker Road/Forest Rd 300 within feet of the cache. Third, if the Killpecker Road/Forest Rd 300 is closed you can park at the gate and hike on the road to the cache.

The cache contains small trade items, my "island bound" travel bug and a free travel bug for the FTF! Good luck to all! Hopefully someone can find it this year before there is too much snow! Please re-hide well.

SUMMER UPDATE: 6/30/09 Lower Deadman Rd. (from Red Feather to Pearl Beaver Rd) & Killpecker Rd 300 are no open! Check USDA Forest Service Website for road status as cache is accessible when Deadman Rd is open:

W drove out this way to check on some caches and headed out to find this one and get it off of our list. We did just that. The hike along FR300 past the closed gate was fairly easy. We debated about whether to get this one or the other nearby cache first. This one won out. Easy find. Coords perfect. Cache in good shape. Thanks for bringing us out to this part of the woods. Flowers were gorgeous. At 10,000' were are seeing lots of Golden Banner blossoms and Lupine blossoms that have passed their prime only 2,000' lower on the mountain. TFTC.
