GeoTour

This cache is part of the larger Santa Fe Trail GeoTour: santafetrail.org/geocaching

This cache was place on the grounds of the Trinidad History Museum, with their approval and cooperation.  Parking is along the street; once you enter the Museum grounds, it is an easy walk between museums.  This cache will be on the east side of the property and will involve a common mode of transportation on the Santa Fe Trail.

This cache is part of the larger Santa Fe Trail GeoTour. Be sure to visit www.santafetrail.org/geocaching to learn about the PASSPORT ACTIVITY to accompany this Geo Tour. Containers on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail Geo Tour are military ammunition canisters, or Brochure-Holder boxes, with an identifying Santa Fe Trail Association yellow sticker on the top of the box, under the handle and the dark green geocaching.com ID is on the side of the boxes with the information that provides coordinates, who set the cache and who to contact for information. Each cache contains a logbook to sign, a variety of items that provide information about the Santa Fe Trail as well as swag items. If you are participating in the Passport activity, the code word is located on the inside of the box, on the top of the lid and is clearly identified as Code Word. Permission to set caches has been obtained. We ask that all cachers please respect all property at the sites where our caches are set.

The Baca-Bloom house is located on US Highway 350 in Trinidad. It was built by a Santa Fe Trail merchant, John Hough, and later sold to the Baca family. The Santa Fe Trail passed near the house, and several of its present furnishings were brought west on the trail. The structure is now a state-operated museum and is listed on the National Registry.

Another important landmark in the Trinidad area is Fisher's Peak. Fisher's Peak overlooks the entrance to Raton Pass between Trinidad, Colorado, and Raton, New Mexico. It was a landmark for Santa Fe Trail travelers, jutting out from the surrounding mesa. Also important to Trail traveler's as a landmark, are the Spanish Peaks. The Spanish Peaks are west-northwest of Trinidad. They can be seen from great distances along the Mountain route of the Santa Fe Trail

Had a hard time finding this nice-sized cache as we didn't know it has been moved from its original location. Ask inside for help if you can't find it as they are very helpful and accommodating. Left a "Big Trouble in Little China" figurine, a Travel Bug, and SpongeBob; taking a Travel Bug, an eraser and a bouncy ball for our cat in exchange. SL. Thanks for placing this here!

Headed home to New Mexico after my 21st Burning Man. So, what's all the commotion downtown? An art car festival, complete with art cars I just saw a few days ago at Burning Man!!! How cool is that? But I also sure do like national historic trails, having worked on a few before retiring from BLM (California and Camino Real NHTs). Would love to one day go on a field trip following the ruts through the Raton Pass, so will check what's happening events wise in SantaFeTrail.org). Took nothing but left Lucy TB and the LNT reference card for geocaching (which I helped LNT.org develop). SL and TFTC!
