GeoTour

This cache is part of the larger Santa Fe Trail GeoTour: santafetrail.org/geocaching

This cache should be fairly easy to locate at the end of county road FF, at the south side of the cemetery.  Looking to the east you will notice the ruts of the Santa Fe Trail coming towards you through the pasture.  This is the land of short grass, so there shouldn’t be much overgrowth in this area.

This cache is part of the larger Santa Fe Trail GeoTour. Be sure to visit www.santafetrail.org/geocaching to learn about the PASSPORT ACTIVITY to accompany this Geo Tour. All containers on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail Geo Tour are military ammunition canisters with an identifying Santa Fe Trail Association yellow sticker on the top of the box, under the handle and the dark green geocaching.com ID is on the side of the boxes with the information that provides coordinates, who set the cache and who to contact for information.  Each cache contains a logbook to sign, a variety of items that provide information about the Santa Fe Trail as well as swag items.  If you are participating in the Passport activity, the code word is located on the inside of the box, on the top of the lid and is clearly identified as Code Word.  Permission to set caches has been obtained.  We ask that all cachers please respect all property at the sites where our caches are set.

Holly is the easternmost town of Colorado on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail.  The Colorado Scenic Byways has worked hard to promote the Santa Fe Trail through the state of Colorado.  “The history of the Santa Fe Trail reads like a saga of the old west. Native Americans once roamed this land in pursuit of the plentiful wildlife. Trappers of French and American descent took beaver from the many streams in the area. Pioneers like Buffalo Bill Cody and Jedediah Smith traveled extensively throughout the Trail finding adventure at every turn. See the wagon ruts, those beautiful ruts, throughout the byway from bygone trappers, traders and settlers. Relive the famous sighting of Pikes Peak in Bent county where Zebulon Pike first saw the peak given his name. Trace the route of the historic Santa Fe Trail as you comb the region for dinosaur tracks.”  Visit their website at: http://www.santafetrailscenicandhistoricbyway.org

On our way home on the Mountain Route after a trip to NM and CO.
This is our last SFGT stop for this trip, and our 62nd so far. We'll probably pick up a couple more on a future planned trip.
