This is the King Cache relocated to a much "better" spot!!

Knowledge of How to use UTM's and Maps & Compasses are essential components of this cache.

Footnotes on Compasses:
When using a compass in the field, it is very important to be careful when taking the measurement and when converting between field and map bearings. An error of five degrees in reading accuracy will result in a position error of about 150 yards after one mile of travel.
East Declination: The declination is East (9.5°). You need to make the two worlds equivalent by adding or subtracting the declination.

  • Map Bearing to Magnetic Bearing: If you are taking a bearing from one point on your map to another point on the map with respect to true north, then you are working with the map bearing. Now you want to figure out where your position is in the magnetic bearing. In order to transfer this information back to your magnetic bearing you need to subtract the declination from your map bearing compass bearing to create the proper magnetic bearing bearing. Map bearing - Declination = Magnetic Bearing.
  • Magnetic Bearing to Map Bearing: If you use your compass to take a bearing from your current position to a point on the landscape, then you are working with the magnetic bearing. Now you want to figure out where your position is on the map. In order to transfer this information back to your map you need to add the declination from your magnetic bearing compass bearing to create the proper map bearing. Magnetic bearing + Declination = Map Bearing.

This particular compass is especially helpful while using UTM.

This is Suunto's GPSG Plotter compass.
Brunton's 8096 GPS Compass is also a very good compass.

This is a nice little hike that can be done in a few hours...and you can bag multiple geocaches up there.
Map Bearing to Lil Tahosa's Mountain Cache: 277 degrees for approx 1960 meters;
Drake's Delema: 302 degrees for approx 1800 meters.

There is an easier way to hike up to this cache, scout out the area and you'll figure it out, or find the hidden link on this cache listing. The trail is defined up to the "T" and from there it fades away. So practice Leave No Trace when you're up there.

GOOD LUCK!!!

So the name of the game was to bag as many caches in Sullivan's park today, cause before to long I hear that Hyw 34 will be restricted to local traffic only, and there would be no way to make finds in this area in the near future! So this cache was on my radar for some time as well as several others in the area. I was a little confused at first given the nature of this cache being a traditional, with the map plotting involved, but Kingjr. message me just a tad late before I started out on this fine cache with his reasoning! If there's one thing for sure about route finding around huge granite outcroppings is: I'm sure to take the longest route before I find the right one! I was starting to get a little discouraged with not coming up with the find, had I know before, I may have came up with it a bit earlier, lots of nooks and crannies to explore but persistence paid off as had a great cache in my hands after 20 minutes or so of looking. Thanks KingJr for the beautiful cache location it made for some great pictures, looking forward to finding more of your's in them that hills! Gets a fav point from me for sure!

Not an easy way up, definitely a bit of a scurry. To steep for the doggies.

Good cache. Fun hike. One of my favorite places to be.

Hadn't gotten any of the Crosier caches yet, so happily joined Path Pacer & her geo-dog for the hike up Sullivan Gulch to tag a couple of them. Nice day for a hike, We probably didn't find the "easy way" up the rock scramble to get to the cache, but Path Pacer made the find & did the contortionist moves to retrieve the cache. Signed the log, took a geocoin, and enjoyed the views, then headed on to the next one. TFTC!

Very nice hike on a lovely day up to a pretty picnic spot with marvelous views. Dog had a good time, too. We didn't find the easy way, so we just went up and over the rocks, but they gave good traction since it was so dry. Trying to retrieve the cache required the services of a contortionist though!

Took a pencil sharpener (been trying to find one of those little ones) and left a couple of small carabiners. Cache is in excellent shape. This one gets a favorite from me for being just enough of a challenge to be fun without wiping us out, the location was pretty, and the views were wonderful.

Finally a day when it was nice out and one that didn't have conflicts on the calendar so I could get out for a hike. Headed up Sullivan Gulch this morning to get the last two caches on this end of Crosier that weren't already smileys on my map.

I also needed to avenge a DNF on this one. In Nov 2012 I was in the area doing several Tahosa caches and I stopped by at this cache. At the time I couldn't find a way up to where I needed to be. I now know I didn't go far enough around the summit block to find the easy way up.

Today I found that easy way up and I found this cache, right where it was supposed to be. Signed the log, took some photos, and dropped a nice coin for the next finder. Thanks KingJR for this mountain cache with great views!!!

Hiked for 7 hrs today, mostly off-trail, bagging 5 caches that were on my list. Lovely weather and mountain. Saw a Bobcat and a kestrel, but strangely enough, also 2 humans who were also wandering off-trail. All the caches were in great shape and dry. Took a few items, left a few items. Thanks everyone!
