Significant hike  Not Available during winter  Picnic tables nearby  Horses  Long Hike (+10km)

This cache resides in Nelson Ranch Open Space in Douglas County right along the Swallowtail Trail loop. Please stay on the trail-there is no need to shortcut & it is not allowed. There are multiple ways to get here depending on your mode of transportation. As horseback riders we start at the Sharptail Ridge Open Space TH on Roxborough Park Rd. From there it is a little over 5 miles one way to this cache. Only hikers and equestrians (no dogs) can use the Sharptail Trail. Also since this is a State Wildlife area, this trailhead is closed for hunting seasons in the fall, so please check the Douglas County Open Space website for dates.

The second (and closest) access for hikers only (no dogs) is through Roxoborough State Park & requires an entrance fee. From the visitors center it is approx. 3 miles one way on CR 5 then along the trail to the cache.

The 3rd access for all types of non-motorized users (including dogs) is from the Indian Creek Trail west of Sedalia. It is at least 9 miles one way from that TH to the cache. A long hike, but not bad if you are riding a mountain bike.

This is to welcome our newest horse, EXOH Bandit, a 5 yo bay roan Quarter Horse gelding we purchased in September. After some training at home this was his first trail outing with us and he did very well.

We decided on a slightly longer walk from home today, and headed off to get this cache. It was a beautiful day for it, with just a light breeze and perfect temperatures. Once near the cache, the hide became apparent. I'm glad that I wasn't as ambitious as hartsdale who found this in the winter. It certainly could be a tough one with enough snow! Although we saw a dozen other people on the trails back here (man, that's a lot for this OS!), no one came by when we were making the find. We sat on some rocks and enjoyed a snack and the views, headed up the hill to get signal to download the cache across the pasture, and came back down to some bike riders sitting in the spot we had just vacated. We took nothing, left yen and swag, signed the log. Thank you Back Country Horsemen for placing this cache so that we can play! And I hope those new horses work out well for you!

This one has been out here for a while and this morning I was going to give it a go.

The snow was deep and drifted so I had hard time following the narrow trail to GZ.

Anyway, I was able to find it and sign the top spot.

It was very quiet out this way and I had the place to myself.

Took a short break and headed back.

Thanks for the cache and a good work out to start the New Year with!
