Scenic view

A cache on Independence Mountian overlooking the North Park of Colorado beside historic Native American teepee rings.

This cache is located next to the site where Native American hunting parties would set up camp on a ridge on Independence Mountian overlooking the North Park of Colorado.  From this site you can see the Rawah mountains to the east and the Zirkel mountains to the west, while overlooking the North Platte river.  The hunting parties would set up camp on this ridge, watching for buffalo, deer, elk & pronghorn.  The stones that were used to anchor the teepee covers are still there and easily viewed.

There is a buck & pole fence surrounding the site and an informational plaque.

This is located west of Cowdrey, Colorado (just north of Walden, CO).  The road leading up to this site is not paved, and can be difficult in bad weather.

After returning our granddaughter to her mom at the Saratoga turnoff, we decided to do a little sightseeing/geocaching on the way home.
This was by far the best cache of the day and the newest addition to our Faves List!
It was a little windy, but the SPECTACULAR views and the real life history exhibit was way worth any inconvenience. Cool
Mrs. rockymtn8iv made short work of finding the cache and all was well in that dept.
After signing the log we spent some time looking the area over.
The Teepee rings were neat and of particular interest was the big one with the smaller fire ring in the middle.
Thank you so much for bringing us here as I doubt we would ever have known about it otherwise!

Drove up to this site in the evening. Very cool place with some history. Found the cache. It had some standing water inside, but the log container was dry. Signed the log, TNLN. TFTC and showing me this cool spot.
