This is number four in a series of historical points within Douglas County Colorado.

John Tallman was born in 1837 and came, with his family, to the Parker area in 1859 and settled somewhere on the banks of Cherry Creek. He ran a sawmill near Running Creek and was one of the first to reach the site of the Hungate Massacre. He married Elizabeth in 1865 and they ranched near where the Ave Maria Church is today. John supposedly participated in Colonel Chivington’s massacre of Indians at Sand Creek in 1864. A trail ran near their property that was frequently used by the Ute Indians, and Elizabeth would give them food. Indian Chiefs, Colorow, Washington and Ouray were among them. They moved to Castle Rock in 1878 and sold the homestead to William and Elizabeth Newlin. The above coordinates are for what is left of the 160 acre homestead. John and his wife are buried in the J. S. Parker Cemetery.

The Pine Grove School District was carved from the Frankstown District. In 1872, John was the secretary and J. S. Parker was the treasurer. And, yes, it was Frankstown in that day, not Franktown as it is now.

Jonathan Tallman was the brother of John. Jonathan had just bought a mule in Pine Grove (Parker) and was returning to Kiowa and insisted on riding the mule. His friend, John Riley, told him that his mule was not fast enough to outrun any hostile Indians that they might meet. It wasn't. He is buried in the J. S. Parker Cemetery.

To claim this geocache, email the dates found on Mary's head stone. Also, mention one item of information that you find interesting.

I came up with xia888, LilRyRy, and CDRSheppo for an event, and I put the oldest caches nearby on our list to find along the way. xia888 and I read the description and found the answer while LilRyRy and CDRSheppo ran around the area. We had to keep a close eye on them not stepping in prairie dog homes. I sent answers on behalf of the group, thanks for the virtual!

I think this may be the smallest cemetery I've ever seen..

This spring I've decided to do another epic geocaching trip to pick up some special caches in the United States.

Starting in London, I fly to Seattle, then Denver, then Atlanta, then New York before finally heading back to London.

After arriving from Seattle I drove east and stayed in a dodgy motel in Wray but it meant first thing I could grab a cache in Haigler NEBRASKA. From there I went into KANSAS for the two most important targets - Arikaree and MINGO! The rest of the day was spent targeting regular sized trads and virtuals in OKLAHOMA and NEW MEXICO.

The next morning was focussed in getting JASMER caches and a WEBCAM in COLORADO, with the rest of the day for virtuals and D5 challenge caches.

STATS FOR DENVER:
1x Webcams
27x Virtuals
7x D5 Challenge Caches (3x not qualified yet)
14x Other Caches
5x New States (Nebraska,Kansas,Oklahoma,Colorado,New Mexico)

TOTAL FINDS: 48
TOTAL DNF: 2

TFTC from London England

Next stop - Atlanta to complete my DOUBLE JASMER!

This is one of my favorites in the series so far. The view was amazing and it didn’t take long for my imagination to fill in some of what the early homesteaders might have seen and experienced on this land. Thank you for bringing me here! Giving a favorite point as I very much enjoyed this visit!!

On a Fall trip through Colorado doing some caching and seeing the sites. A beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Visiting the downtown areas of Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs to name a few. We enjoyed a beautiful hike on the Barr trail at the Summit of Pikes Peak. It was a wonderful trip with quite a bit of caching thrown in along the way. Thanks for another fun and interesting place. Answers sent.

This was the second Jim Reed virtual we did today. I took the day off work, my dad played cheauffeur and my daughter had a field trip because we homeschool. Consider this part of the history lesson for the day. She journaled about her experiences while in the car so that takes care of writing too! :)

This site really fascinated me. It’s always interesting to see how suburban development springs up around significant historical sites. The history behind these graves was fascinating and sad. I’m always fascinated with old cemeteries and the stories and mysteries they hold. And this was yet another prime example of a geocache taking me somewhere I never would’ve stumbled across on my own.

Answers are on their way.

Thanks for the hide Jim Reeb. I appreciate you keeping this cache active for everyone to enjoy.

Took a bit of a long weekend, well five days anyway and hopped in a car with Boreal Walker and yellowdogs (AKA - Team Barcelona) and headed west aiming for parts unknown. This cache was one of those on the adventure. Headed up this way today with the guys to gather some details. Guess he need a faster mule. Enjoyed the adventure, thanks for the fun virtual's in the area. I will go out of my way for these.

I am on a road trip with Boreal Walker and jREST from Minnesota to New Mexico and back meandering our way through as many counties as we could with many target caches in our sights. The weather was decent, although we did have a day that the temperatures reached 100 degrees and we were very thankful for the air conditioning the car provided. We enjoyed our journey and the many laughs along the way along with the great places some of these caches brought us to.
Our answers have been sent. Thanks for the Virtual cache! BigSmile
