Park at area just north of intersection of 82 and 133. Walk in single file up road to Red Hill trailhead. Stay on established trails until within 50 feet of cache. Altitude gain is only 500 feet but is at 6000 feet above sea level.
Not quite to the 'shroom but, after finding the cache, go on out to the edge. The altitude gain from the valley floor to the top of the mountain is almost 7000 feet, the greatest for any peak in Colorado. Rocks and trees provide the only possible hiding spots for an ammo box. Initial contents included compass/whistle, magnifying glass, freeze-dry pheasant omelette, pink gloves, and the obligatory smurf!

We decided that we needed to be a little more active over the next couple of weeks so the Mama Monkey did some research and found a number of hikes to do. This was one of them. After hiking to the top of the hill, we made the quick find on this nice ammo can. We swapped out the one TB that was in there for another that we've been dragging around with us for a while. It was a beautiful albeit windy day for a hike and we enjoyed the vistas. Not sure that we understand the math of the elevation in the description on this one, but then again, monkeys don't have very high IQs.
