The cache was placed during the Dome Fire that broke out at the base of Boulder Canyon on October 29th, 2010...

Above: the Dome Fire as seen from Hwy 119 shortly after it began and before fire crews arrived

The hide is located near the initial staging area used by fire crews before they moved up the canyon and closer to the actual fire. It was also a popular viewing point for onlookers and the media in the hours following the outbreak. To see Ground Zero itself, consider logging "Canyon Granite" (GC13E27).

The container is a camouflaged micro of sorts. Log only. Bring a pen.

Was it a campfire? A freak lightning strike? Maybe some errant electrical sparks that caused the fire? No idea, but the cache would seem to indicate the latter.

There is also a vintage fire engine several yards east of the cache that might be worth checking out if time permits (see Waypoint).

Congratulations to "sassydil" for FTF on November 3, 2010!

Nice hide! Last time I went to look for this one there were some bear cubs on the way to GZ so we left before even getting to look. TFTC!

Not sure about the title of this one but after some misdirection, I found it.

Going up to Nederland today. A wonderful weather day, slightly on the warm side but still delightful. The red headed supermodel as well as escher53 are joing forces to man an invincible caching team.

escher53 spotted this one first. We both logged it.

First cache in Boulder! Coord.s were a couple meters off. I extended my search radius and easily made the find. Surprised there aren't more caches around here

We own a similar hide near our home in Healdsburg, CA so this one was quick and easy for us. Thanks! P.S. We're loving Boulder.
