I tried to solve this a few times and couldnt quite figure it out. Then in a despirate bid to solve a puzzle, I gave it another shot. Fatah! Happy checker.
Today, after returning to Denver, I grabbed several other caches in the mountains. Grabbed this one on the way back home. Great time because all of the protectors were gone. Tftc!

Thanks for the fun puzzle and the hint to solve. LOL! The original log is still wet. I left it there and also put in a new log in a plastic bag.

I found a nest of Yellow Jackets in the 1st place I looked. Luckily the cool weather inhibited the ability to fly so there was no need for me to make a quick escape. I found the cache in the next place I searched. The log it totally water logged, way too wet to sign. Thanks for the puzzle!

After so many months without a logged find I was afraid the cache would no longer be there, but it was. Everything fine, nice hiding spot not too far from the clue and about the Right Time to find it. Perfect. Thanks.

07:09. Wasn't sure what I was looking for or where exactly to look. There was a muggle parked on top of GZ, but I tried searching the magnet-friendly locations behind him, but came up empty.
Didn't understand what the hint means.
