A difficult geocache requiring completion of another difficult geocache; certainly a challenge and worthy of a 5! I learned some things about mountain ratings I didn't know before, so that was fun. Sadly, having limited time to geocache I've only climbed one of the peaks, but look forward to having more time in the future for mountaineering. Thanks again Tahosa for a well-crafted and challenging cache!

This cache was published just a few days before I was leave for a hunting trip in South Dakota. Like Denali41, my first "go to" database of Colorado mountains turned up some inconsistencies between it and some of the numbers on Tahosa's table. And since I had not completed the Steeplechase, I knew I didn't have the time to put in the research before I had to leave and so I set it on the shelf.
After returning from my (unsuccessful) trip I renewed my effort to complete the steeplechase. It took quite a bit of touring but yesterday I finally located the last of the churches. With that hurdle complete this morning I began searching for a data source that would match the table. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the correct source and with that, I quickly filled in the blanks. I had 6 of the 7 mountains identified correctly using my first data source but a couple of the numbers didn't jibe. There was no doubt when I located the second data source. I have been on top of 5 of the seven peaks. The two I haven't been on yet are the 4th and 6th on the list.
This morning my puppies and I took a drive, first to drop off my ballot at the new County building, and then to the Steeplechase cache location. After locating that cache and signing the log, we headed for this cache. When I arrived, my puppies waited in my truck while I searched for the container. Locating this one took some time because there was quite a bit of natural camo to contend with. Eventually I found the well camo'd container which made the puppies happy because they would have rather been helping me and didn't like having to wait in the truck.
Thanks Joe for creating this cache that fits so well with my interests in climbing Colorado's wonderful peaks and locating challenging caches!!!

Elevation. Prominence. Isolation. I’ve been to the summits of almost all of the 20 high prominence Front Range peaks that are potential contributors to Tahosa’s cache, so I’ve experienced the Elevation, the Prominence, and the Isolation of each. The quest to reach them was quite a journey, worked in over the years between other alpine objectives in Colorado, North America, and other continents. So it was fascinating to see a new cache with this unusual caching theme that has so much relevancy to me! Thanks, Tahosa and Sons, for stimulating a journey through my memories, through some vivid recalls of exciting mountain summits and of some enjoyable climbing companions! It was fun working through the needed statistics for this intriguing puzzle after the field experiences I’ve enjoyed on these mountains.
Now, despite my familiarity with the individual peaks I nonetheless had a couple of false starts on this, but I quickly got myself back on track. I was using a data base that differed a bit on certain parameters from the one used in the construction of the challenge–but I worked through the differences quickly. Last evening I finished up getting solid coordinates for the cache, checking the spot on Google Earth. This morning my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo accompanied me to the cache location. They celebrated my {FTF} by then taking a long walk with me along a near-by road. Now THEY are named after two mountains that have staggering Elevations, Prominence, and Isolations. But they are oblivious to such matters. Instead, what matters to them is getting out for new experiences. I guess that’s what matters to me, too, and it’s one reason reaching the tops of remote as well as easily accessible mountain summits has long been a serious component of my life.
So is geocaching...and as always, a cache conceived and placed by Tahosa and Sons has special significance and challenge. Joe’s caches invariably have marvelous ingredients and exotic seasonings and tastes prepared and served in creative fashion worthy of the chef he is. Thanks so much for another delicious complement to your other wonderful caching meals that I’ve so much enjoyed feasting on in the past. This cache gets a Favorite Point, of course.
