Junction City

The mining town of Junction City was located near this site from 1906-1913.  Junction City was not owned by a mining company as were many of the company towns in this area.

Also located near this spot was the Yampa Valley Electric Mine, the only coal mine to open on the east side of Highway 131, which was in operation from 1911 until 1916.

The nearby Arrowhead Mine was opened in 1928 and closed in 1954.  The portal to the Arrowhead Mine can be seen straight across from the cement structure on the other side of the railroad track.
