!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spiritj Quest #1 – Mountain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

CLARA DULANEY'S GRAVE

I found this single grave by accident while searching for the Missouri Flats Cemetery (the coordinates led me to a pile of rubble). Like so many sites around here, there is a story waiting to be told. Apparently the site was well known even before the building of the Central City Parkway and somebody has put up the money to erect sturdy fencing around the grave. According to Jeff Casey, several county sheriffs have reported seeing a small child in the area of the new C and D parking lots south of Central City, near the grave. On a separate occasion, a Central City gambling shuttle driver was driving past the grave and heard three distinct knocks on the outside of the shuttle bus. "Could it be the ghost of Clara or another unknown child whose grave has been disturbed by the recent activities in Central City?"

To reach the site, take the Virginia Canyon (Oh My God) Road out of Central City. Shortly after you cross over the Central City Parkway, there is a CDOT maintenance facility on the left. Park on the right off the Virginia Canyon Road and walk about a quarter mile to the site. It appears there is a road through the facility and up the hill to the cache but resist the temptation to use it as you will not be able to legally get out. Do not park on the Parkway even though it is closer—there are signs (maybe not close by) that prohibit stopping and parking.Bring a writing instrument.

This little girl died shortly after the end of the Civil War. With the isolation of Central City, one wonders if the inhabitants even knew the war was over.

Headed up to the mountains today to escape some of the heat in the city. Great day to explore an area that we had not been to before.

Good condition.

Love finding cemetery hides!

Kicking off the summer with a great American road trip to celebrate M4ISU’s belated birthday!  After months of planning, I am finally on the road with Stephenjha as my copilot.  I am logging as we go which makes it easier to keep track of the HUGE playlist we are hoping to accomplish.  If all goes well, I’ll drive 2500+ miles, add 50+ new counties, see 5 different states, find some cool cemeteries, increase my Fizzy and Jasmer progress, find 20+ virtuals, a handful of Earthcaches, a Wherigo, and maybe a webcam or 2!  It’s going to be a crazy weekend!

TFTC. SL. Thanks for placing this hide for my enjoyment, I really appreciate your effort! CACHE ON!!!

Out for a run with Greasepot and Pobah (the band is back together after a hiatus)! Great day to be out and about near Blackhawk--even beat the rain (although Greasepot took one for the team AND didn't melt). Thanks for adding to our fun and TFTC BigSmile.
