CONGRATULATIONS TO egroeg38 AND poudrecacher FOR THE CO-FTFs!!

In August 2009, egroeg38 hid his earliest “creation” as the first cache in the superb sequence that is today recognized by geocachers as the “Mountain Vista Series”.  Since that initial, epochal, hide he’s added 53 more challenging, clever caches to this series. Yes! The series now numbers 54 superb caches!  Each is noteworthy for its creativity, with its details meticulously planned out and executed.  The cumulative hours spent by all the cachers who have tried to find these 54 marvels must be staggering.  I can only relate to my personal time expenditures in this regard, and to the many frustrations I’ve experienced during my searches followed by the elation and adrenaline-like rush associated with each find!  I suspect that most or all geocachers who have scored on a majority of George’s Mountain Vista Series caches have felt similar emotional swings to those that I’ve had. Another hallmark of the Mountain Vista Series is each cache has always been carefully maintained. In 2014 George added to the variety of his NoCo hides by offering up 13 exquisite head-scratchers in his MAX series.

GEORGE CREATING ANOTHER BRILLIANT CACHE

The other day my puppy Orizaba and I hiked up Hewlett Gulch to do maintenance checks on my three Traditional caches and a Multi-cache stage that are accessed by this gulch. As Zaba and came down the trail I looked at an area that years ago had “hosted” a Traditional cache that has been archived for a long time.  I had an “AHA!” moment. The circumstance was one that George would have chosen for another Mountain Vista Series cache, had the locality been reasonably close to Mountain Vista Drive.  Because of this, and because George has had a special relationship to my nearby cache memorializing Miss Katie, I detoured off the trail to see if I could make a hide similar to any of the themes egroeg38 might use in such a setting–you know, an evil hide in a spot that has a plethora of evil hide possibilities! My review didn’t take long before a specific location was the new home to a micro.  It’s hidden as a tribute to egroeg38, for all the fun he’s provided to the NoCo geocaching community since that first hide in August 2009.  Thanks for all of these great adventures, George.  And enjoy your tribute.

A note on the Difficulty rating.  On so many egroeg38 caches the rating assigned to the cache Difficulty seems a bit (or more) low.  In keeping with this theme, I might have done the same here--either inadvertently or purposely.  Or, the Difficulty star rating might be right on the button. You decide, and let me know your thoughts in your Found it log. Oh, and PLEASE replace the cache exactly where you found it, to maintain the challenge for future searchers.

In 2012 I presented another tribute cache to egroeg38, “Below George’s First” (GC41JDD). The photo of George used in that cache was taken by his wife Rachel.  She has also provided the photo used above, in this cache description.  Thank you, Rachel!

Took the afternoon off to hike up Hewlett gulch with pixel magic. Gorgeous spring day for it. Tough hide. So like a George cache. Thanks for the caches to find.

Tried for this one while after the first to find and was not able to get it. I will be back still more to get in here for me.

I promised my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo a hike today, so I decided we'd go up Hewlett Gulch and do checks on several of my caches there. We had a marvelous afternoon, and met perhaps 30 other hikers along the trail and perhaps 25 dogs, all off-leash, as mine were. One dog was named "Denali"--my caching name as well as the name of a wonderful female black lab that Denali50 and I had the pleasure of living with so many years ago. Hearing his calling out the name "Denali" led to some interesting conversation. It was a great afternoon, indeed.

This cache container and log were in the proper location and in excellent condition. It took me awhile to find it!

Went up Poudre Canyon today with this cache and one other being my main targets. It was a very warm day for January, in the 50s before noon! I did not note the time I began my search but I'm guessing I spent between 45 and 60 minutes searching all the nooks and crannies I could find before I came up with the cache. It definitely is well hidden! I've only done a few of the egroeg caches but I definitely recall the challenging hides and this one seems to be on par with what I've experienced. Thanks Steve for this nice tribute cache!!!

Thanks for the cache. Hiked Hewlett Gulch again today. Not too many other options for relatively flat trails. Lots of people and dogs out today, and a few bikers.

Had better luck with this cache than I have had with any of the Mountain View caches I have tried. Found in maybe 20 minutes. Just dumb luck, but I'll take it. Re-hid and continued on with our hike on a very warm December day.

What a tribute, indeed. This hide was worthy of George. We tried twice before to locate this container without success. This time we did it. TFTC.

Congrats to egroeg38 and poudrecacher for their first on this cache. Based on their found comments and poudrecacher's email to me, I've increased the Difficulty rating on this cache by 1/2 star. Is this a surprise? Nope.

Egroeg38 and I had a very pleasant day and short mountain hike to yet another wonderful denali41 cache. Characteristic of a denali41 cache, we had to work long and hard to find this one. We thank denali41 for the great tribute to a great geocacher and great friend of ours...egroeg38! SL
