Today after work I opted to take a trail walk and grab a bunch of caches near North Table Mountain. It was just over a 4 mile hike. The weather started with light rain and my journey ended in sunshine. The weather was great. I saw one hawk, several crows (or ravens) and deer footprints. I was a little concerned with Table Mountain's reputation for high rattlesnake concentrations. Thankfully, I didn't see one. But it did cause one scare.
I was reaching toward a cache when I startled a large grasshopper. It's wings made the sound of a bug zapper as it soared away from my head. My head, filled with thoughts of rattlesnakes, froze. My pulse soared, my breath fled, and I screamed as my brain made the connection between the noise and my fear of being bitten. But a few seconds of being frozen like a deer and my brain figured out that the grasshopper scared me. There was no snake.
And so many muggles. Each time I would look up, just before reaching for the cache, I would see another one. But I finally made the grab and signed the log. So much swag! TFTC!

I'm working on a challenge cache where I need 42 more regular size caches. So I headed over to Golden to make some finds and chip away at that number. I parked nearby in the subdivision and hiked around to grab a few of the regulars on the Table Mountain trails. I was glad the snow was gone, but I didn't realize the snow melt would turn the trails to mud. Managed to pick my way through and waited out a few muggles to climb the little hill and make the find. Left a couple TBs here, hope they don't get stuck here for too long but I also figured they would have a lower chance of disappearing from this one, too. Decided to continue through the mud to get just one more. Thanks for the cache! find #2181
