Easy to find, tough hike to get there!
This trail just opened up in October 2002 and goes from the Crags Trailhead (N38 52.278 W105 07.203, 10,110 feet elevation) up to the summit of Pikes Peak. The whole trail is about 8.5 miles and climbs 4,000 feet but you have to hike about 2 miles and climb just under 1,300 feet to reach the cache! The cache is a 10oz glass jelly jar. It is in a hollow stump but there are so many hollow stumps, better use your GPS to find which one. Take a camera and some fruit to feed the camp robbers!

Got an early start from the Crags trailhead this morning and had a very nice hike up to Devil's Playground. Weather was perfect, so I took several detours once up top (and on the way down) to pick up some nearby caches.

Looked on the way up and on the way down for this one. The previous finder said they found it downhill (hint indicates uphill) - so I looked both directions. You're right - there are a lot of stumps! I tried to look in them all. Hope I didn't miss the magic one. Given that it might have traveled, and that there was nothing at GZ, perhaps this one merits a maintenance check?

Grabbed this one on the way down off the mountain. Although we were down off the mountain quite a bit, I knew we still had some work ahead of us. It was definitely a full day with getting on the trail just after sun up and got back to the car as it was getting dark. TFTF

No joy today. Went to what looked like the place of geocachness and nothing there. Maybe another time.

What were we thinking!!! I mean, what birdbrain does this cache in March? We were looking for a good hike and a couple of weeks ago had some luck accessing a cache at high altitude. After all the hot weather we've had, surely there couldn't be much snow up there. Well we were wrong. And on top of that, the Crags Trail was closed, again, on January 17th. That meant coming in from Devil's Playground - a nice easy walk for a while, but then the trail started disappearing under snow drifts and the steeper it got the deeper the snow. But we are stubborn and decided we could at least make it to your cache. I'll come back to do the rest of the caches below yours when all the snow is gone and the trail is open from the bottom. The cache is in great shape. Thank you!

After figuring out my NatGeo TI map had this trail numbered wrong (it is 753 on the map & 664A shows as an offshoot from 664), I made it to this cache. I decided it got too narrow with branches too low to continue riding my horse on up. That & I wanted to make sure I had enough time to also ride to the Crags. A fav point for a cache I could ride to.
