******Congrats to Hartsdale for FTF********

Elevation: 7,179 feet

This small, unnamed cave in Section 16 is a rare, hidden gem.
We have rated this at a 3 and even our youngest rockhound made it to the cache with no issue. However, if you are not familiar with this area or haven't adjusted to the altitude; you may find it a bit more difficult.

The cache is NOT located above the cave. Please do not climb up and over the cave, as the ground is very soft and loose.

~Dark Hollow~

I'd rather be in some dark hollow
Where the sun don't ever shine
Than to be in some big city
In a small room with a girl on my mind

So blow your whistle freight train
Take me far on down the track
I'm going away, I'm leaving today
I'm going but I ain't coming back

I'd rather be in some dark hollow (note 3)
Where the sun don't ever shine
Than to see you another man's darling
And to know that you'll never be mine

I'd rather be in some dark hollow
Where the sun don't ever shine
Than to be home alone, knowing that you're gone
Would cause me to lose my mind

I'm going away, I'm leaving today
Well I'm going, but I ain't coming back

Beautiful morning to hike trails in Section 16. Quick find. Signed log and replaced container as found. Thanks for the cache.

Came down from the top of the mountain today to grab this one. What a journey!!! Definitely the better way to get it is from the bottom. The cave is not deep and was dry today, but still pretty cool to see (including the stovepipe cemented into place). Great place for a geocache!

Was able to find the replacement cache container easily enough and replaced it down low behind a couple of rocks in the wall for safe keeping. Probably the best place for it where it is secure for the winter and from critters who like to eat plastic.

I didn't read ahead or I would have brought a new container. Found the replacement. Tough hike, but great views!

I made the tough trek up to GZ hoping to find this cache since it has been almost 2 years since the last log. About half way there I realized this was the season that, if one lives there, a bear could be in the "cave." I had my dog with me & I was hoping if there was he would alert me & I wouldn't go any further. But we got there & I realized I could see into the cave & it was empty. It was obvious that muggles of the human kind were much more prevalent in the area, which surprised me because following the drainage was fraught with bushes & stickers of all kinds.
I looked diligently for the cache, the green fishing line from the hint, in & out, up & down & could find nothing. I decided since I had made the tough trek up, I took a very small container I had with me, stuck a piece of paper in it & found a reasonable niche to hide it in. It is not 'in' the cave as I understand sometimes there is water in there.
I did contact the CO for permission, but never heard anything back. The next person up there may want to bring a more appropriate replacement container, but it has to be pretty small (pill bottle or film container will work).

Quick find after a good hike. I was keen on exploring the cave, but its full of water. I chucked a couple rocks in there and it sounds like it goes back a ways. I'll have to return after things dry out some. Thanks for hiding this cache!
