What a great 4WD area! Along Pole Hill Road (Forest Service Road 122). 4WD required, or hike 1.8 miles (one-way) along Forest Road. Cache is easy to find if you can get to the zone.
"The Notch" is at an elevation of 8470 feet and there are great views of Estes from here. This is an awesome 4WD and ATV area. Stock 4WD's OK. Spend some time up here. Have a picnic at The Notch, drive around several 4WD loops, or camp at one of the dozen or so (primitive) campsites.

If all you're doing is going to the cache, your GPSr should get you there without any further maps required. When you get to the fork in the road, take FS-122A. I've noticed a lot of maps don't show this road, but it will get you to within 50 yards of the cache. When you get "in the zone", you might want to stay on the road for awhile longer. It curves back around and will get you pretty close. The cache is a large ammo box, chock-full of goodies! Shouldn't be too hard to find. Gettin' here is the hard part.

If you're doing any exploring in the area, you'll need a topo map. You can also find complete descriptions of the 4WD trail at the "related web page" link above, or search for "Pole Hill Road" in various trail guide sites or books. Note that the gate to the Forest Access Road may be closed from late December until Memorial Day. Watch the cache postings for updates on whether the gate is open or closed. Bikes and hikers are welcome year-round. The gate just inhibits the vehicles.

Check real-time weather conditions at Weather Underground (wunderground.com), look for Estes Park, then click on the Personal Weather Station named "Pole Hill Road". (The personal weather stations in the area are listed at the bottom of the page.)

When we moved to Estes Park, we knew we wouldn't really be settled in until we had our very own cache here. Finally, we can call Estes Park "home"!

Great cache container! First of this kind we have found. No longer a lonely cache - hasn’t been found in a while. Thanks for placing this cache for us to find. Favorite point for the container!

Found this large cache in a protected and winter friendly location. Coords are good and the contents are in good shape as well. We are here at the end of our 12.7 mile hike to get a FTF on Sugar Loaf Mountain. Snow was plentiful and drifted up to 24" in depth fairly consistently in this area. Snow was soft and powdery so we sank in easily. Found this one with my hiking companion Fishhooks81. TFTC.
