Out for a little walk this morning, exploring a trail I hadn't hiked before. My goodness, I can see where the joke about "66 switchbacks" comes from! Cache is in great shape. Please note - the "summer parking" waypoint is no longer a legal place to park (see picture) - good thing the parking at the bottom of the hill is still close!
I don't quite qualify for this challenge yet (2.06/1.97), but maybe someday I'll be able to join the cool kids' club! Thanks for placing this challenge cache.

Found about a mile into the climb up the Heizer trail which I had never done before. Great view of Ute pass from here. Even though I prefer the more difficult caches I guess I have too many easy finds as well since I'm at 1.8/1.8.

I am visiting the USA because of the birth of my first Grandson in May. He is in Georgia. When I knew that I would be making the trip I decided that I would try and find one of the high average difficulty / terrain challenges you have here in America. The only similar challenge in the UK requires an average of 1.72, so I decided I would take a trip to Colorado to visit the mountains here and also to find this one.
I am not an extreme cacher, but do like the aspect of Geocaching that gives a bit of challenge and adventure. For that reason, a few years into my Geocaching I decided to focus on Geocaches with a total of six or more stars. This has worked well for me in keeping Geocaching fresh and enjoyable.
Over time my average has crept up, and I can see the day in a few years time when I will reach an average of 3 for both Difficulty and Terrain.
Its great to be here in Colorado and taste a little of the wonderful scenery and trekking you have. Big respect to the cachers placing, maintaining and finding Geocaches in high altitude environments. When I set out for this one there were storm clouds to the West, but they passed to the North of the cache without drenching me..
My current Difficulty average is 2.95 and Terrain average 2.94.
It feels good to finally have achieved the goal of signing in at a challenge of this kind, and a pity in a way, that its OK to challenge people to find a lot of caches,, but not OK to challenge people to approach Geocaching in a different way.
I picked up the Travel Bugs and celebrated by resuscitating the multi further up the trail and doing something else recreational that is popular in Colorado.
A big thanks for setting the challenge and playing a part in bringing me to this beautiful part of the world.

Off The Rails. That's a thing, right? I didn't realize how old this cache is...last year some time or other when it caught my eye. I was rolling happily along filling any date on my stats calendar which lacked ten or more finds. Then I saw this, checked my qualifications, and found I had dropped from a D2.06 or something, to a 1.96 by signing anything I passed by just to get those double-digit dates
.
My d-d plans then went flying off them rails. I've found it is REALLY hard to raise your D/T avg with 4.5 K finds already.
The CO is quite supportive- said I should work on puzzles; and offered someone close to hand who could help... I quipped I needed to get off me arse and do harder caches
!!
Well at long long last I've crept to a 1.99/2.10 , and it will be no time at all before I punch that last .01. I had a great walk up this way today & am pleased to have signed a bit behind some other cache-crazed types from the Dallas area. Dropped a couple TBs and can't wait to make it an 'official' spirit-of-the-challenge find real soon
ED 05Jul - Whooop !! Is RPieperCO Zeus ??! Well regardless, the power of his/her Power Of Zeuss cache nearby up above Green Mountain Falls was the straw to push my profile stats to finally show D2/T2.1!
Flip-flopping my find here from 'note' to 'found' to celebrate the momentous...blahblahblah/ ohshutup.

Signed this one 7/3/2016 after solving the puzzle and making the .2 mile hike to the cache. We wanted to make this one a significant milestone cache when we finally logged the find as our goal has been the essence of this challenge for years and will remain our focus for years to come. We are really sad to see this not a part of current challenges.
Today we end a 1001 day streak of nothing but Mystery/Challenge/Unknown caches that started 6/4/15. We have had a lot of folks watching, many whom are critics, but we did it all within the old and new guidelines, not someone's subjective view based on the "spirit" of the game. I challenge them to do it as it's was not easy. It's also is our 147th DT loop cache. We wanted it to be the 150th but the timing just didn't hit right.
Thank estes01 for keeping this one alive and hope it stays around for many years to come. The hike alone was worth the favorite point.

Woohoo! Happy New Year. I did it, I did it, I FINALLY did it! I logged the find 8/29/2014 , and now I meet the spirit of the challenge with an average 2.16/2 D/T rating. It may not last long, but at the moment I made my goal. What a year. After 10 years of caching, I passed 10,000 finds, 19 D/T loops and (finally) got over 2/2 average. (The CLAPS series in Houston helped immensely.)
By the way, if anyone has a chance to get to Austin, TX for a couple of days, go after "The Nine Princes of Amber" before it is archived in June after 10 years of life. 14 caches with "Trump Cards" to arrange to find the 5/4.5 bonus cache plus another bonus cache. Each of the 14 is a short hike and most have cool views at some point.

Two great night caches. Necropolis has probably the highest favorite points in the state, plus the series I mentioned. Just saying. I spent three days in Austin and had a blast. Still much left to do there...
Hope all is well. We will be in COS/DEN for a brief visit Jan 14-17. Wishing all a safe and happy new year.
