Dogs  Scenic view

This cache is located about 5 ft. below a rocky pinnacle outcrop which provides a fabulous outlook along the top of Crag’s Crest.  The well traveled trail to this cache has a lot of variety across rocks, small rivulets, pine forest and small highland meadows.  Much of the trail is 1.5 difficulty, but there are areas of 2.5 - 3.0.  The trail has an elevation gain of 600 feet in about 2 miles to the cache.

If you have any fear of heights, do not attempt this cache. The last bit of the 3.5 Terrain difficulty is due to mild exposure in the last 20'. The easiest way to the cache is over the top and down the south side face but the approach can also be made from the west side walking around to the south side face. From either direction there are plenty of good handholds. Watch carefully that you do not put you feet on a loose rock, test your footing carefully before placing weight on it. While I would not let my 5 or 90 yr old do this trick, I would not have any problem with my 10 or 65 yr old doing it. As always, at your own risk and watch for pricky and fanged flora and fauna. See attached photo for west side view of outcrop and view beyond! FINALLY! After MULTIPLE attempts, the FTF goes to BG2015 on 7-28-16! RADICAL! Way to go!

Great hike this morning, had the trail all to myself. Got to GZ, followed the hints, and it was right there. It took me way longer to open the thing than to find it. Rust has taken its toll on the container. It was in great shape until I man-handled it for a long while. Put a few nicks and dents in it, just a tad bit of moisture inside, but otherwise ok. I think that I recall these on the Honor Power Trail on 25 Mesa, no matter how hard I tried, the thing would not twist. After I get it open, it looks like just a pull-off.

Anyway, great location, great hike, amazing views (even with all the haze). I passed 10 other parties on the way out. Fortune favors the bold, you just gotta go for it. Thanks for placing. [FTF]

Looked for this cache while hiking from Kannah Creek Road trail head up and over Crag Crest to Cottonwood Lake #1. I searched but didn't find it. Trying to get across the crest before weather set in. The clouds sure come fast up there!

Saw the DNF from a few days ago and figured this might be a big chance for flatlander FTF glory out west. Much to the dismay of Mrs. runawaytrain and geomutt, the search lasted 30 minutes, and to my disappointment, came up empty. Lots of scrambling, checked many spots but not the right one, the clue didn't help either. Instead of leaving a signed log and swag, I left a chunk of my left knee on a rock. Congrats to whomever figures this one out, it is a real challenge. Had to settle for the million dollar view on a beautiful day!

Hiking around the loop of Crag Crest and whatever the lower trail is called. It is quite a little NRT. My map showed a benchmark, so I took a trail free spur up to it. Also found a PLSS marker along the boundary further down. Just a bit of snow across the top adding some extra little hills. A good day for hiking and monuments. Not so great for geocaches, but still got a few.

I am not so sure the hint survived the snow. I mentioned there was a geocache nearby to some other hikers and one said, "That's all you need to say, we love finding those." It seems they like to stumble over them, but no actual looking. They really like trading goodies. Even with the help, all that was found was some old wire (maybe blasting wire). They actually had to get back, but I kept looking and not finding.

Ah well, the FTF will be all the sweeter to the one who does get it for having a DNF prior.

Just running some TBs (including personal pedometer) around this trail of newly set caches, by us, to prove we actually did a 5k associated with an Earthcache for the International Earthcache Day and virtual 5k souvenirs. PLUS we are going to be releasing several of these bugs in the near future. They were along when the cache got set, they should get credit for it! PLUS as there was several inches of new snow put on the ground today, it is likely that they will not be found until next spring.
