Welcome to GC7D5HN built for Fun To Find, a 2 stage (posted and final) Letterbox Hybrid cache. Please be prepared for terrain and weather conditions typical with this part of the Rocky Mountains. Note the listed attributes.

During my geo-travels across the continent, I have seen many "tribute caches" placed to honor a geocacher. I have always thought about placing some tribute caches, but in the end, decided against it. In my opinion, a proper tribute cache would require something special that captures the essence of the named geocacher’s geo-personality. This can be a difficult and time intensive task. For example, I can think of at least one cacher I considered doing a tribute cache for. In his case, to do it right; I would have to make a placement requiring knowledge gleaned from hiking the local area for 30 years, hike to the top of MT Elbert in only 2 hours, shove an eight year old to the side to claim a First To Find, and write a cache description that only says “more later” and then never update it. That just seemed like too much work.

Instead, you can reach this cache by taking Route 300C from Rampart Range Road (300C Start Point waypoint). While 2WD should be able to navigate this road, please use your judgment to decide if your vehicle has the capability to handle this road. At the 300C Turn Off Reference Point, bear to the right, leaving route 300C and drive until you cannot drive any further. The rest of your journey will be on foot.

At the posted coordinates, you will be looking for the view as depicted in the Navigation Sight Picture (see below). The final is hidden in proximity to a tree located inside the yellow box on the spoiler photograph. Once you have identified your destination, it is a simple matter of choosing your route to the final, navigating to that area, and then conducting a thorough search. The distance between the posted and final is not significant, but the difficulty will be moderate to difficult based upon which route you chose. An experienced Alpine Hiker will not have difficulty finding a (relatively) easy route.

While we all cannot get a FTF (First To Find) on this cache, hopefully all will have a FTF (Fun To Find) instead. Good Luck and enjoy the hunt.

What a view from the listed coordinates! When I got there I realized I should have paid more attention to the cache page as I wasn't able to look at the photo on site, but I remembered enough to get to GZ OK. And, BTW, I walked the last little bit to the listed coordinates instead of driving... :-) TFTC

From a technical perspective, this cache was underperforming. In order to keep it true to the original concept and ensure it remains Fun To Find, the container has been upgraded.

I love spots like this and have used a few of them myself. It was a fun day with GoMRT, estes01 and ernie66, our great driver for the expedition. TFTC

Out for a fun day of caching with WingsAndTales, ernie66 and GoMRT. Wow, what a beautiful area! I have to admit that I was more interested in staring at the scenery than figuring out what we were missing in solving the secret of the cache container, which may or may not have been a decoy container. Once again, GoMRT's keen eye to the rescue. He was starting to get annoying with that eye. Ernie66 wanted to drive the last 50 feet up the boulder so he could get that special photo that Jeep owners love to get (maybe Xterra owners too) but I was afraid we wouldn't have any way to return home. As for the cache container itself…it's extremely important on this one that it's put back exactly as it was found or it won't be around for long. In any case, this one was definitely built for fun to find. Thank you!

We were able to drive close to the cache but elected not to drive the last 50 feet up onto the rock Smile. The target zone was spotted and we made our way over there, finding the correct GZ after a short search. That's when the easy part ended. After a long search, GoMRT found the well-hidden cache, slightly damaged but still serviceable. TFTC!
