This is a virtual cache. Enjoy this hunt in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. This place is COLD in the Winter. To confirm your find, please e-mail me with a description of the name on the cache.
Lewis In 1846 I was born in Virginia. During the Civil War, I served in the Confederate army under Col. J.E.B. Stuart. After the war, I moved to Texas. Soon I began driving cattle from Texas to Missouri and Nebraska. In the late 1860s, during a drought in Tennessee, I drove a herd of cattle there to help alleviate the hunger. It was in Tennessee I was given my nickname, which stayed with me for the rest of my life.

During one of my trips to Nebraska, I met Col. William F. Cody, a scout in the Army at Fort McPherson. Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill, and I quickly became friends. Cody persuaded me to become an Army scout, which took an act of Congress since the government had a policy of not hiring ex-Confederate soldiers. In 1872, Buffalo Bill and I decided to bring a stage show about the Wild West to eastern audiences. "The Scouts of the Prairie" played in cities ranging from Boston to Richmond and Norfolk.

I met my future wife, Josephine Morlacchi, while traveling with the stage show to Chicago. She was a dancer and an actress who was born in Milan, Italy. Our marriage lasted seven years and ended with my death from pneumonia in Colorado at age 33. My wife then went into seclusion and no longer performed on stage.

Buffalo Bill Cody said this about me after my death, "My friends, perhaps many of you do not know this man whom we have gathered to honor...one of my dearest and most intimate friends. He was a Virginian by birth and the blood of the Powhatan Indians flowed in his veins. He was of proud and noble birth."

Buffalo Bill, dissatisfied with the modest grave marker at my gravesite, arranged to have erected a "suitable monument" in the cemetery.

I found this one on a trip from Houston to Grand Lake, a trip in which I spent the night in Leadville. This cache was one of a few select ones I found in the area. Answers sent to the CO. A favorite.

Day 5 of an epic 6 day journey out to the western frontier. I had some vacation time that I needed to burn up by the end of the year, and what better way to use it than to go Geocaching! My main goal was to find caches in New Mexico and Nevada, which would complete my map in the western US. The rest of the 4 remaining states are on the East Coast. Secondary goals were to find oldies, mostly virtuals, and high favorited caches. The only bad part of the trip was that it rained every single day of my vacation.

I headed south out of MN on Sunday and returned home on Friday.
Sunday - Drive all the way through to Colorado (15 hours!)
Monday - Cache in and around Denver and Colorado Springs, with an attempt at Pike's Peak (closed at Mile 14)
Tuesday - Head south towards GC19 and then west through Wolf Creek Pass
Wednesday - Four Corners monument and west towards Nevada
Thursday - After a night in Richfield, UT, head east through the skiing areas of Colorado towards Nebraska
Friday - The long drive home

Thanks to all the cache owners for placing these caches for me to find and for keeping the oldies going all these years.
Thanks for the cool virtual!

Spent a couple nights in Leadville to acclimate and be closer to the mountains. Arrived pretty late on Saturday but just had enough time to make a loop around town picking up caches before the sun went down. Was surprised how little trouble I had with the altitude around town, crazy how these ordinary caches will be close to the top of my find list.

This spot seems to be something of a tourist attraction. Saw signs for it later after I had left. Lots of coins left here.

Fascinating life for someone who died young.
We were visiting Leadville today and before leaving we were curious to know who this chap was.
We were able to drive right to GZ and pay our respect.
TFTC and for bringing us here.

We spent the long weekend in the Leadville area hiking and summiting four 14ers and three 13ers. This morning, we climbed Mt. Massive. After descending back to town, we visited the cemetery. Found this one quickly. Learned some interesting history here. Many thanks.

I left a penny.
A penny at the grave means simply that you visited. A nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together. A dime means you served with the solider in some capacity. A quarter, the biggest coin, has the biggest meaning. This means when at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the soldier when they were killed.

Answer was messaged to CO. I've wanted to go to Leadville since I was in a production of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. It may not resemble what I pictured, but the cemetery is a vivid testimony to the history of the town, and its varied and interesting history. Thank you for keeping this old virtual going. TFTC.
