This is the third on 3 in my mini series of remembering the past.  Us local natives remember this well. This whole shopping center and apartments were home to Wheatridge Regional Center.  My mom and I have walked through the buildings. Heres some info from other websites.   The former Ridge Home state hospital stood in Arvada at Kipling and I-70. For decades it served people with severe mental and physical disabilities. But it was also plagued with allegations of abuse against those who lived there. The home shut down and the abandoned buildings attracted attention for years from kids and teenagers and others lured by ghostly tales.  When the hospital opened in the early 1900s, it was called the “State Home and Training Center for Mental Defectives at Ridge.”At that time, it was common for people with severe disabilities to be sent away and institutionalized.
