Second, maybe 3rd, strike here. With the CO checking on it and the slight hint of willows, decided to try again. GZ put me in the middle of the river (not literally) so I may not have done the projection correctly. Checked the willows that were closest, but my confidence level was low and I gave up after about 30 minutes. Oh well, maybe next year. Maybe not. Thanks anyway.

The cache is not across the river. It’s in some willows

No luck with this one. My gps said it was on the other side of the river. Geopuppy Riley and I crossed the river and sure enough my gps again said it was on the other side of the river. Poked around a bit on both sides looking for a cache similar to the Equation of Time one, but no luck.

I enjoy projections and own several caches that require the use of projection techniques. So I was happy to see this cache and had some confidence that I'd find it. Alas, after carefully wending/winding my way through various water channels to reach the coordinates I started my unsuccessful search. Beavers have been industrious in the area and have bitten off many, many willows. And flood debris has washed onto some of the vegetation in the GZ area. But the cache is likely there--just another jake92 cache that after diligent searching I've missed. Well, there will be a return someday to the Silverton area, and when I get back this cache will certainly be a priority!

I've discovered in the past when searching for jake92 caches that my success rate, even after very thorough searches, is about 50%. On this trip I tried for 10 of his caches. This was the seventh of the 10. My cumulative "trip score", after this cache, is jake92--4; Denali41--3. jake92 takes the lead again! Oh my, what will happen in the final three innings?

Out on a day trip to Durango and Silverton. We (dfay1165 and I) decided to swing by here to find this one since I now know how to use my Garmin to project a point. Well, I still was unable to find a clear route to GZ, wondering if my projection was off. I would like to get this off my DNF list next time I come back, so I'll have to see what I'm not doing right. Strike one on getting my daily puzzle.

Had this on my list for today, an 11 month old cache with the FTF prize still waiting. I spent about 2 hours the previous afternoon trying to figure out how to plot and get some fairly close coordinates since I don't know how to do a "projection point", so I decided to just input the benchmark coords and try a reverse search so-to-speak from that point. Well, much to my surprise, it was found just an hour and a half before I get to what I was hoping was GZ. I looked all around at some fairly obvious hiding places, but still couldn't be sure I was even within 100' of where GZ really was. Since I wasn't prepared for a river crossing, I finally gave up the hunt.
