From the time when kids had to walk uphill both ways in a blizzard to get to school the Yuma County Historical Society has set out to mark and locate all the old country schools
"We need another school!" Hammond School is overcrowded!" "It is too far for our children to go to school!" These were the cries of the people in the western part of School District 5. Their wishes were granted in 1919 when the Enterprise School was built. They also built a small barn to shelter the horses that some of the students needed for transportation. It served the children within an area of three miles wide and four miles long.
The school was a one teacher school and all eight grades were taught. The teacher did all the janitor work including building fire in the furnace and bringing the water for drinking and washing.
The School House was sold in 1951. Items listed for sale were 20X36 School House, Mueller Pipeless Furnace, Barn, Government Toilet, Piano and miscellaneous desks and books
