CONGRATULATIONS TO icezebra11 FOR THE FTF!!

This multi-cache will take you on a hike along the Ginny Trail through extensive land that was hotly charred in June 2000 by the large Bobcat Fire.  You will pass across the burn zone and enter a forested location that offers extraordinary views of gorgeous mountain landscapes to the southwest and west of Bobcat Ridge.  It’s indeed a very, very special location!

So here goes...the listed coordinates (Stage 1) bring you to a virtual stage.  Go to the coordinates and look around you.  A highly visible yellow sign is nearby.  If you see more than one yellow sign, be certain to focus attention on the nearest one.  It’s within 75 feet of where you are standing at Stage 1.  Go to the yellow sign.  It’s Stage 2, and it’s also a virtual stage.  Record its coordinates.  The Final stage is Stage 3.  Stage 2 is 162.767 yards at 376 mils from the Final cache.  Make the necessary field calculation to determine the coordinates of the Final cache location and then go find it.

The cache container is well hidden.  It’s a small jar wrapped in tape.  The jar is at the bottom of a cleft in two large rocks that have a flattish rock wedged between them in the cleft.  Look below this wedged rock.  The jar is on a bed of pine needles and is concealed by a couple of small rocks that hold it in place.  If you need more direction, consider this: just to the south of the cleft is a rectangular flat rock (about 6"X2"X24" in dimension) that leans against the westernmost of the two large rocks. Don’t disturb this guide mark rock.

The Final is located at coordinates within Roosevelt National Forest, and is accessible by following an excellently-maintained trail system in the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area. Because it is placed on National Forest land, instead of in the Natural Area, it is a legally-located cache. Expect a round trip hike of about 8 miles involving approximately 1,400 feet of elevation gain—so be prepared in terms of needed time, food, water, and clothing. Dogs are not allowed in this Natural Area.

STF! Back in area so had to see if I could avenge my previous DNF, and Yea, I did! It helps to pay attention to little details. And I got a super hike in as well. Glad to have a smiley on this one.

Defeat! The crushing agony of failure! Got to the GZ, found the yellow sign as mentioned, got a good marking for stage 2. Must have fouled up the calculations or conversions for the final. Will double check and give it another go... :-(

We followed the directions and thought we were in the right area, but after almost an hour of scouring the mountainside, we had no luck. We'll check our work and try again another time.

After the DNF by CountryLifers I communicated with him. It was determined that an error was made in his calculations. I'm confident the cache is in its correct location.

Twas a long hike, only to end up with 2 DNFs. This one I found the spot that matched the description, right down to the "guide rock." But no find.

What an absolutely gorgeous day to hike on Bobcat Ridge! Temp in the 50s, no clouds, and a light breeze. Perfect!! This cache got published the day before I left on a 10 day trip to northern Minnesota for my annual archery black bear hunt with my brother and friends. Then after I returned home I got sick for about 6 days so it wasn't until today that I was able to go after this cache. I'm really surprised it hadn't been found already.

I arrived at the trailhead at 9:40 am and set out up the very familiar Ginny Trail. As I said, the weather was perfect and I had a very enjoyable hike to the posted coordinates. The sign you seek is very obvious from there so I went to it and marked the spot. Then I performed the necessary projection and set out for the final. I reached the final location and set about searching for the container. It truly is very well hidden but the description is very helpful in making the find. Upon opening the container I found a blank log which I happily signed in the {FTF} position. Then I spent some time enjoying the views sweeping from the north to the west and on to the south. Denali41 certainly found another great vantage point to bring us to.

To the south is Alexander, a home for several of my caches. SW is Round Mountain which is home to some fantastic Tahosa caches. A little further north is a neat profile of Palisade and just to its left and much further away is Long's Peak, towering above all others. Further northwest is Crosier, another home of some great Tahosa caches. And Denali41 of course has some caching gems scattered about the sweeping viewshed.

Thanks Steve for placing this cache and for once again luring us to a great location to take in the views of the northern Rockies!!!
