EdFredO Clan went on a fishing trip and decided to place a cache at the same time.
This one is a challenge. For starters, **The cache is at approximately 9000 FEET .**
The terrain is rocky, dirt etc... This is around some very beautiful waterfalls up north of Dillon
at Lower Cataract Lake. Take highway 9 north out of Silverthorne for 16.5 miles.
Turn left on Heeney Road #30. Continue for 5.4 miles to County Road 1725 and turn left.
The parking area is 2.6 miles ahead (See above parking coordinates).
I’d think twice about attempting this is severe weather. We also recommend you print
out the visual hints and decrypt the hint, you’ll need it.
We used 3 GPS Units to get the coordinates, We would of had 4 units, however one was lost when Squirt
slipped on the way up, and landed on the rocks below, the Garmin eTrex Venture in his pocket broke the fall (See "dead gps" picture), saving him from a more serious injury.
We hope you enjoy doing this cache, bring a camera for the waterfall and a fishing pole for the lake, and make a day of it.
Cache contains a variety of trinkets.

Found while out with my wife, Penhead63. Wow, what a haul to get up here but challenge accepted and completed! Cache contents were dry, but the container lid is only being held closed by duct tape. TNLN - TFTC!

We made it!! Didn't choose the easiest path up but found a decent one to get back down. Signed log. TNLN. The container repair from last year seems to be holding up but it could use a new one. Sorry we didn't have one with us. TFTC!!

My wife & I were up at Lower Cataract lake for our anniversary & decided on a whim to see if we could find it. Having never attempted a cache before & not really planned on it, we didn't have any of the clues except for one person's comment about the twin pines. We started up the falls & got within 300'. That's when we figured we were on the wrong side of the falls. We had to work our way down quite a ways to find a place to cross on a deadfall tree. Up the other side we went & finally spied the twin pines in the boulder field. The weather was perfect & dry, so pretty easy walking on the rocks. Once at the twin pines, we searched for an hour or more to find it. The obvious place (again, not having seen any clues) was not where it was. Only after making one last pass through the area did I spot the cache through a small hole nearly completely blocked from view by some rocks.
A lot of fun although a pretty tough climb to it up the falls. We look forward to our 2nd cache.

Camping with the family at Cataract Campground and decided to hike the Cataract Loop. It was too tempting to stop without heading up the waterfall (no real trail and not for sissies). As it happened, my sil had looked up this cache, but none of us had a gps with us. It was only by COMPLETE coincidence, paired by our sense of curiousity that led us to the top of the ridge (hey, I wonder what's up there? Maybe we'll be able to see the lake.) From there, a quick glance back at the boulder field convinced her that indeed those twin pines were the one from the picture. So 6 of us (age range 8-60) braved the boulders and found the cache! Our hardest, yet most rewarding yet. Rocks were dry, so no slipping issues, thankfully. The highlight of our camping trip! Thanks

This has been on our list for sometime since it is close. But we were not going to pay $5 to park. However we learned out National Parks Pass is good for the Fee Demo areas. This was probably one of the most dangerous hikes we have ever done. There is no defined trail for the last part of the hike. The rocks are moss covered and very slippery. There is large deadfall across what may have been a trail. The very last part of the hike is a class 3 rock scramble through a boulder field. And the cache is within the Wilderness Boundary where it caches are not allowed.

Success! The last part of the hike after leaving the loop trail is a doozy! Lots of deadfall that was hard for me to negotiate- and THEN you get to the rocks. Managed to pick a way up. Found the cache easily then thought "How am I going to get back down?" Quite an adventure!
