This camo'd bison tube is in a pine tree on the southeast perimeter of the roughly 400x400 foot area at Woodland Park Middle School that has disc golf holes 1-4 of the 9 hole course.
Leik (pronounced "Lake") of the 3 Williams Kidz played Ultimate (frisbee) while in high school. Ultimate frisbee, (officially simply called Ultimate), is a non-contact team sport played with a disc flung by hand. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone. Other basic rules are that players must not take steps while holding the disc, and interceptions, incomplete passes, and passes out of bounds are turnovers.
Ultimate was a bit much for me, Leik's Dad, but I can throw a frisbee, and love spending time with my kids, so we decided we would give disc golf a try.
Disc golf, also known as frisbee golf, is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. The sport is usually played on a course with 9 or 18 holes (baskets). Players complete a hole by throwing a disc from a tee pad or tee area toward a basket, throwing again from where the previous throw landed, until the basket is reached. The baskets are formed by wire with hanging chains above the basket, designed to catch the incoming discs, which then fall into the basket. Usually, the number of throws a player uses to reach each basket is tallied (often in relation to par), and players seek to complete each hole in the lowest number of total throws.
If you can throw a frisbee, you can play disc golf. In addition to getting a good walk in, we think it is a lot of fun, and friendly competition between kids of all ages. There are disc golf courses in many places and several of them (including this one) are free. However at this course which is at a middle school, please do not try to play during school hours.
Grab your frisbee, a piece of paper and a writing stick to keep score, and enjoy !
