Another in the Ghost series. Very easy, you can drive to the site. An odd but interesting cache at an elevation of 9181 feet.
Silver Plume was incorporated on Aug 19, l880, although its name was given by Steven Decatur 10 years earlier. Supposedly the name stems from the shape of the silver ore discovered in the area, which supposedly broke off in feather-like patterns. During the 1870's more than two thousand people populated Silver Plume. A Post Office was established in 1871 using the name Brownsville. The old site of Brownsville is at the west end of Silver Plume on Main Street where the grey mine tailings reach level ground. It is said that a chunk of silver bullion weighing 580 pounds was discovered in Browns gulch in 1869 - a worlds record.

About 50 feet west of the cache site is the Brewery Spring which furnished fresh spring water to brew German style lager at the Bush Brewery and water for the Bowling Alley which were across the street in the 1870's. Both the Brewery and Bowling Alley are gone.

Silver Plume is a mix of ghost and present - many old buildings dating back to the boom days still exist, many are vacant.

While in Silver Plume, check out the Georgetown Loop Railroad on the south side of I-70.

To log this cache, email me the name of the chief tenant, and the date it was built.

You would think that 5 days and 2000 miles in a car with FeartheFish to the Metroplex and back would be enough for anyone but I guess I must be a glutton for punishment as off on another roadtrip we go. Decided to let FtF find everything this trip and only bail him out when required. Neat place. Answers sent to CO. TFTC!

Up in Leadville visiting my friend K4D and decided to do some caching on the drive back to Denver. Herndonrd was part of the experience because I don't know how to cache without him.

We had no trouble finding this one rather quickly, and grabbed the desired information before heading back to the car. Thanks for the fun hide and for your contribution to a great day of caching.

P. S. No animals (including humans, aliens, or PayMeCache) were harmed in the writing of this log.

P. P. S. Herndonrd will email the information on behalf of both of us.

Interesting Cache. GrammiesGeoFun and Grobert on our trek across America working on our list of contiguous counties. We are enjoying the ride through an area we lived near 25 years ago. Wonderful location for a hide. We appreciate the thought and effort that goes into creating these hides. Thank you for giving the rest of us a challenge. Practicing CITO.

Day 5 of an epic 6 day journey out to the western frontier. I had some vacation time that I needed to burn up by the end of the year, and what better way to use it than to go Geocaching! My main goal was to find caches in New Mexico and Nevada, which would complete my map in the western US. The rest of the 4 remaining states are on the East Coast. Secondary goals were to find oldies, mostly virtuals, and high favorited caches. The only bad part of the trip was that it rained every single day of my vacation.

I headed south out of MN on Sunday and returned home on Friday.
Sunday - Drive all the way through to Colorado (15 hours!)
Monday - Cache in and around Denver and Colorado Springs, with an attempt at Pike's Peak (closed at Mile 14)
Tuesday - Head south towards GC19 and then west through Wolf Creek Pass
Wednesday - Four Corners monument and west towards Nevada
Thursday - After a night in Richfield, UT, head east through the skiing areas of Colorado towards Nebraska
Friday - The long drive home

Thanks to all the cache owners for placing these caches for me to find and for keeping the oldies going all these years.
Neat virtual!

I was driving back from Silverthorne to Denver and stopped a few times along the way to collect details for virtual caches. This was quite the interesting stop along the highway. I wouldn't have guessed something like this would be here. Thanks for the interesting cache!

Day Seven of our Epic Adventure the quest for 5000 to Mingo and beyond with softball29. Landed in Denver from Albany NY the 26th. Traveling and caching 9 states in 7 days. This looked straight out of a western movie , in fact a lot of the old buildings did as well . Very Cool. Great to see this. Thank you for bringing us here and the smiley.

Parked up by the jail as we drove back along the old Interstate from Georgetown to Breckenridge. These mining towns are so historic now, they look like film sets!
TFTC.

We traveled to Colorado to hear Brett Dennen and Mraz at Red Rocks. We added an extra day to the trip to grab some caches before we headed to a cabin in Evergreen. Great weekend and we found everything to be in great shape. The coffee at the coffee shop down the street was phenomenal! Thanks for the virtual and for bringing us to cute Silver Plume!
