Visit one of Denver's beautiful libraries for this family-friendly geocache. Part of a series of Denver Public Library geocaches.

This cache has limited hours of availability. Visit here for additional details. There is free parking on the north side of the building.

The Ross-Broadway Branch Library opened in its current location on October 26, 1951. Architect Victor Hornbein designed the building with an eye toward functional symmetry in a modified version of the Prairie School style made popular by Frank Lloyd Wright. The beautifully constructed building features specially made, deep-red bricks, glass-curtain walls, and a children’s section with custom-built reading benches.

Ross-Broadway was the first permanent branch structure constructed with funds from real-estate developer Frederick R. Ross, a member of the Denver Public Library Commission for 32 years. He established a trust that funded construction of Ross-University Hills, Ross-Barnum, Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Libraries, in addition to Ross-Broadway.

To find this geocache:

  1. Go to the coordinates listed.
  2. Come inside. Note the beautiful red and green glass squares and rectangles in each set of windows.
  3. Count the colored panes of glass in the bank of windows above the circulation desk. Remember that number. Note the structural I-beams throughout the perimeter inside the library.
  4. Stand inside the library facing the front door. Going clockwise, using the number you discovered in step 3, count out that number of structural I-beams.

This cache series would not be possible without the enthusiastic and supportive help of the staff at the Denver Public Library. Be sure to visit the other geocaches in this series and collect the special code at each final for future surprises. A bookmark of the other caches in this series can be found here.

Thanks Geocaching Colorado for the Geocache of the Month Award, as the first series to win!

What an adorable library branch! I'm glad the quest took us here. Great hide, too.

This was my third DPL of the day but I must confess I needed a little help from the librarians on this one... clever little cache! I got to start a new page in the logbook. Swapped TBs. Thanks for the cache! CoolCoolCool #1,194

I was shocked I had to ask for help for such an "easy" cache. Sneaky sneaky! The librarians were very helpful in steering me in the right direction, without giving it away. Otherwise, neat little library. I am a big fan of this style of architecture. I thought it interesting that such an old building would have very politically-correct bathrooms, listed as "gender neutral," no guessing required. :)
Thanks for the fun.

Caching with KSGator, Ghostiegal and Wall77. We are doing the DPL series. Had great fun and some frustrations on some, but we worked them out and made the find. TFTC

Always good to find these DPL libraries - Amazed on how many are in Denver, then exploring and learning is all part of it.
