A spot near an old quartz quarry. Amazing views!
This cache is located in an area of old quartz quarries. They used to mine the quartz and grind it up to make glass. This quarry is located right on the edge of an old burn area. Great views of Raliegh Peak and Lone Scraggy Peak, as well as many of the granite domes in the area. You shouldn't need to bushwack at all to get here. The walking distance to the cache following the trail is 1.4 miles. The altitude gain is 439 feet. Park at the Colorado Trailhead at the South Platte River. Follow the Colorado Trail over the bridge and up the hill to the left after you first pass under the bridge. The cache is located close to the Colorado Trail. Hope you enjoy the hike.

Cache container was found riddled with bullet holes. Some pathetic individual decided to ruin our fun.

An exciting day to start sectioning the eastern segments of the CT! Knocked out segment 2 after a lengthy 20+ mile day (yoyoing from South Platter River). Found this cache at the beginning of my day, although my caching eyes were not with me at first. TFTC

On my way back down and stopped to look for this one.

After signing in I poked around the area for a while.

Thanks for a nice container to find!

We were out finishing up the caches for the roadtrip and made the short hike up to the quartz mine. It was a great day to be walking the trail and only saw a few others on the trail today. We had a lot of fun looking at all the different types and colors of rock. We've never been up the Colorado Trail from here, and will have to hike further when we have more time. I always try to remember to appreciate what we have now, as things can change in the blink of an eye. The Hayman fire is one example of that, and Two Forks Dam is another. I wonder how Denver Water will handle access to this part of the trail when (if?) the area becomes inundated by Two Forks Dam. Nice hide and the cache is in good shape. The cache contents reminded me of a dog rescue - several sizes, shapes and breeds of dogs looking for a home. Took nothing, signed the log and left a keychain - although I would have left a wee dog if I had brought one. I'm giving this a favorite point because we really enjoyed wandering the site and looking around. Thanks for placing this cache so we can play!
